Wow, maybe I'll start listening to some sax players. Thanks for a new direction, never would have thought of that approach.

Thanks Claus,

You really need to hear Robben Ford on headphones on a good system to hear
what he is doing with his pick.
Also, it is important to make sure you are listening to Dumble #102 ODS or is it different amp or backline used in the recording.

He is known to sound the same if it is the Dumble or his preference of a Pro Reverb or evil Twin backline.
Usually with a well known distortion pedal (Zen?).

So it is mostly technique but still the Dumble factors in.

I know everybody seems to shun Tag (from TGP fame) about his opinions on Dumble tone, but he did provide some important sound clips to show what the #183 ODS (EL34) sounded like.

And he loved Politician!

Thus the TKT 183 (Tag Knows Tone 183) amps from Chad.
Tag did own the Dumble for awhile. (Bad economics forced him to sell it)
It's actually a good riff to hear if the amp will give it up.

Plus we have the data and photos from that amp thanks to Tag and Chad.

Unfortunately, Tag is a bit of an eccentric and has probably been banned from every forum ad nauseam.

Talk to Your Daughter is also another good benchmark for Dumble #102.

Good luck to all Dumble lovers and don't forget to build a Dumbleator!

I don't mean to say that these amps will make you sound like any of the well known
artists that use Dumble Amplification.

What I suggest is to first build the amp as best as we know and what is available parts wise.

Play it for a while to determine what you don't like about it.
It may not meet your expectations.
Too much bass?
Too much treble?
And on and on....

Nobody has ever said you will sound like Larry Carlton or Robben Ford if you play a Dumble.

But, you should start with a foundation that is laid by Dumble.

I don't really buy the notion that HAD built and tuned each amp to the person playing it.
I don't see much evidence of that.
Or we would see drastic differences in the amps we have documented.
I believe he had some different specs for less bass or more treble and so on.

So first, play as designed, then after an appropriate amount of time, start making changes.

But, if you are like me, you will make changes right away.....

Best advice is to try one mod at a time so you don't lose track of what is affecting the tone,
in a good way or bad way.
Also keep good notes to reflect on with each change.

Personally I like the High Plate Skyline version with 4x 6L6GC.

And don't forget the Dumbleator! :D
