Brown note D’lite 22 half power switch

Post by peckjed »

Hey all, I have a brown note d’lite 22 (6v6). It’s essentially the layout below. My question - what are people’s thoughts on half power switches and what would the best implementation be?

I was toying around with the idea of this but I’m not sure if it’ll work in the D’lite: https://robrobinette.com/Generic_Tube_A ... er_Switch0

Or would a standard half power switch that’s implemented in a 6l6 amp be best?

Hello,

the half power switch for 6v6 amp will not benefit tone wise. I have tried with 50 watt amp and it did reduce the power substantially. but for 22 watt i would try a attenuator instead.

i have a question about the layout. what is the right most part that connects 3 wire in it. the bottom left part by the table/list. what does this do!

I think you’re referring to the Jack for the foot switch. The way my amp is configured it is a 2 button foot switch that controls PAB and OD. Other versions it’s a mid boost instead of PAB.

I do have an attenuator that works pretty well. I guess that will stay hooked up.

Thanks for reply. Is it a stereo jack?

What exactly are you thinking of with that?
Most half power switch arrangements just flip the output valves between pentode and triode modes; as I understand it, that is the standard?

The only other typical options are to use a lower HT voltage, change from fixed to cathode bias, or if there’s a quad of output valves, to disconnect a pair.

You’re right - I was thinking of a previous build with a quad of power tubes. So the easiest option would be pentode and triode.

The downside being the much lower output impedance in triode mode. So there’s a noticeable tonal change, as well as a reduced power output. Hence the comment in post #2.

I have a Fender 75 head ( 80' Rivera ...) which use a such solution by switching resistor to get a lower HT and for changing bias to go from 75W to 25 W.
And it works ok :)

Derailing a bit but still in the half power switch topic, I was wondering if would any led do the job, and also which side of the led should be connected to the 10K resistors? These don't seem very specified in the 124, 183 layouts...Lastly If anyone has tips on a bezel it would be great, I am keep to implement this on an amp.

Haha me too.
Actually, it reduces power to a bit less than 1/4 by switching the HT voltage for the power amp to 1/2.
It was designed by the great Ed Jahns, a highly regarded EE, just before the Rivera era.
