Posting some pics
hopefully enough decent shots to analyze the problems
any info on mistakes or whatnot is very much appreciated

I have a question.

On the master pot on the far left, where is the sheilded cable going from the middle terminal to the .02mf input cap of the PI (V3)?

I've circled what I am talking about. You ssem to have a shielded cable on the level pot and I can't tell where that goes.

Sure seems like some fat wire.
Is that the wire that came with the kit?

Have you tried any other tubes for V1 and V2?

Sometimes it's the simple things that get us.

yes it is going there and it may be optical but the cable is not shielded
and I ran out of cable from the kit.

and i will try some different tubes
still befuddled by the OD and the OD switch..... just dont work
tried different switch too...gotta be in my layout
thanks

V2 (OD) Rk and Ck grounds are tied together but according to the pics do not seem to be grounded to the buss bar. Or did you connect the V2 Rk and Ck ground underneath the board over to the V1?

What I'd do is disconnect the switch and connect the OD section directly.

Connect the .05uF cap directly into the 220K resistor, then the OD volume center terminal to the master volume right hand terminal.

If it works, the problem is in the switch wiring, if it doesn't you can focus on the wiring on V2.

He has them connected by the two white wires to the buss.

How certain are you that you did all the underboard wiring correctly?
All the dotted lines on the layout are these underboard wires.

For instance, did you wire the two cathodes together?
That is the two pairs of resistor/e caps where the white wires from the board go to the buss wire.
I circled these on the layout below.

Structo, thanks for the correction, it's what I meant to say. 8) V2a and V2b' s Rk Ck grounds may not be connected together under the board.

Hi guys thanks for the time looking...
V2a and V2b Rk/Ck grounds are connected underneath. And wired together in pairs

I am so glad you got it sorted out.
:D
It really is a good amplifier.

Sometimes the best thing to do is walk away from it and come back with a fresh perspective.

Enjoy!
