Oddvar R wrote: Sat Jun 10, 2023 7:53 am A little update on my transformer issue. At first I had a W022798 Transformer 40w OT and a Hammond 1750M PT. The Weber PT wnt dead twice, so I decided to try something else. The ywo mentioned transformers sounded very good, a very sweet overdrive.

I bought the Dumble 50w offering from Tube Town, but well installed, the overdrive doesn't work as sweet as before, there is a distinct difference. Much cleaner soundg, even at full volume.

So I wonder if I should revert to a smaller combo transformer, 50w to 40 watt? Any views on this?
many weber PTs have gone bad if used with 50hz, not 60hz. After they became aware of the issue, weber claimed that they improved the export transformers so that they don't overheat. I've personally had 3 PTs with this problem and two of them blew (a fourth one does not suffer from this problem at all)
That's interesting, they didn't tell me about that.

probably because they think the issue has been resolved. They cannot test the transformers unless they have access to 50hz though

Note that OT has a 5k primary as opposed to the standard 4k. Fender Blonde/Black Bassman is the best bet, IMO.

add 75-100ohms 5w to each anode in series with OPT anode leads and try again

Ok, thanks, I'll try that. Does it have to be 5w?

I'd guess a little less power, and a little more distortion.

It wasn't very different with 91r caps.

I will try that yes.

Another thing is that it might be that the overdrive channel for some reason isn't working. The amp seems to be only working in clean mode? I seem to remember som issues with that when I built it years ago?

Of all my amps, this has been my go to amp for years. I have never had a better one, so I guess I have to revert to the old setup with transformers, very good overdrive, now it sounds a bit like a Twin Reverb. Maybe a tip for another brand?

A quick update for the 50watter, I have reverted to the original Hammond OT transformer, still there is a very different sound. I have experinced that a PT has so much influence on the sound. So I have contacted Weber to see if the possible 50/60 hz issue, if any, are solved, so I'll buy another one.

Is there a advice on a transformder that has a milder, not so trebly sound?

Has the DC voltage changed significantly with respect to the previous?
