Update: 20AWG solid core teflon - EU source ? (ApexJr)

Post by bluesfendermanblues »

There seems to be a general concensus towards 18 or 20AWG solid core Teflon as sold by apexjr

I'm looking for a source for this cable in Europe

This is at least one source but I think they don't sell small quantities.
Groop buy ? I'd be interested !

Cheers,

Hi Jürgen, Thanks for the link. The don't sell less than 100m, which should be plenty enough for 75-50 amps

No way, 20AWG applies to the cross section, not the outer diameter of the core or of the wire.

20AWG is equal to 0.6mm², but 0.5mm² is more standard.
Try Farnell or Radiospares, they might have what you are looking for.
Tube Amp Doctor has some as well ( http://www.tubeampdoctor.com/index.php?cPath=33_68 ) but not this section it seems.
I actually work for a cable manufacturer, we do manufacture a lot of those...

Thanks guys for directions and links. Really appreciate it.

I have placed an order with Steve at ApexJr. His prices are fair and he's willing to ship to europe. I'll keep you posted as to how this source works from this side of the pond.

Huh?
20AWG is equal to 0.6mm², but 0.5mm² is more standard.

Code: Select all

AWG Build Dia Section R/Km
20 1 0.813 0.5190 33.20
20 7x28 0.965 0.5620 33.80
20 10x30 0.889 0.5100 33.90
20 19x32 0.940 0.6320 28.30
20 26x34 0.914 0.5260 33.00
20 41x36 0.914 0.5230 32.90

For 24 AWG solid wire:

24 1 0.511 0.2050 84.20
App. 0.5 dia = 24 AWG

(Data from a RS datasheet)

Again, 20AWG relates to the cross section of the core, not its diameter...
And in the RS datasheet that what they also say :
AWG Dia Section
20 0.813 0.5190

And to be more accurate, 20AWG is equal to 0.5mm² for a single core wire, but closer to 0.6mm² when you use multiple strands construction.

Yawn.

I've *never* mentioned 20 AWG before answering you.

Please read the initial post:

What part of 0.5 mm diameter is unclear?

Then what part of my answer is incorrect?
App. 0.5 dia = 24 AWG
Huh?

OK , I assumed he was still talking about the 20AWG correspondance.
I had skipped the link to the solid copper wire, my bad.

Update:
Received my order for 20 AWGteflon cable yesterday. 175 ft = Total USD 80.58
=> USD 0.46/ Ft. (EUR 1.07 / Meter)

Steve's price for the cable was USD26.25
Shipping, overseas was ..........USD15.50
Paypal fee, 5%.......................USD 2.09
IMPORT TAXES in Denmark.....USD36.74 (rip off! our local IRS have a flat rate of USD30 + 12% for smaller packages).

Wheather total price per ft is too high for EU residents is for yourself to decide. IMO the price is competetive with similar quality in EU.

Steve @ ApexJr is real easy to deal with. He shipped the order on the same day and is very fast at replying e-mails. So I hereby recommend Steve.

+1 on Apex Jr.

I'm in the US so I can't speak to what overseas shipping and duties will do to you, but Steve helped me out with wire for my latest build. Prices are very fair, selection is very good, and quality is excellent. Steve is a member here and seemed to know what I wanted before I did. Good guy! I had my order in 3 days.
