Joe! Pass the GAS!

Post by Structo »

Joe Bonamassa posing with his collection.
Looks like a lot of work went into setting that up.

Looks like two or three Dumbles on the left hand side.

That's a lot of gear!

Yeah, I counted them after I posted that and realize there was more Fenders than I had initially thought.

That's only a portion of his gear, assembled for the centrefold of the Royal Albert Hall gig programme from last year.

The European rig is missing, some notable guitars like the gold sparkle Strat, and by all accounts he has over 1000 guitars anyway!

Are you saying this picture was taken at the Albert Hall?

Or the shot was taken in the USA for the Albert Hall programme.

I can't imagine he would ship all of his gear there just for a photo shoot.

I'd say without doubt it was shot in the States, not least because of the amount of gear they've had to assemble there, but also because the rig he used in London isn't there.

The shoot was done to be used in the programme for the Royal Albert Hall gig though, so it would have to have been done well in advance of that.

What is also interesting is that Joe used to play a lot of fender guitars.
Especially the Stratocaster.
Apparently when he asked for a Fender endorsement deal Fender turned him down.
This so angered Joe that has been reported as saying that no Fender will be on his stage during any show.
Although I have seen him recording with Fenders he has quite a few in his collection, I guess he is PO'd enough not to play them publicly.

He was in discussion with Fender to produce a signature version of his gold sparkle Strat, lent it to them to take all the measurements, photos, etc. and then they decided they weren't interested.

Sometime later they issued a limited edition reliced gold sparkle Strat with no mention of JB, no endorsement cheque, and with relicing and specifications that matched his guitar.

That's what upset him and why he has subsequently banned all Fender products from his stages.

Although he was forced to relax the rule when Eric Clapton joined him on stage at the Royal Albert Hall with a Strat and a tweed Twin!

Ah, ok that sounds more feasible.

I love that gold sparkle strat. Checking and all!
It was on the cover of Premier Guitar about a year ago.

One day I will build one just like it.

I don't see the gold sparkle Strat anywhere in that picture, either....

...Fender's blatant copying of that guitar, was the source of most of the rift from the stories here on the interwebs.

That's gotta be pushing two or three hundred thousand bucks worth of gear, no? Just the guitars, almost a hundred of 'em, probably averaging more than $1000 a pop, no? Insane.

I think way more that $1K a piece.

Makes me wonder where guys like that store it all?

I know Billy Gibbons reportedly has a warehouse where he stores his bazillion guitars and amps.

European Twinkleland is missing too. That's a killer D clone.
