John Mayers 100w EL-34 Overdrive Special : Skyliner

I'm not sure what the OD tonestack consist of but my guess is its an HRM

I'll have to find the Tonequest Article with all the info regarding the amp but here goes some clips of it. Very Fat sounding and expressive ODS amp IMO.

I read somewhere that John Mayer use a Tubescreamer or Boss Bluesdriver as overdrive device.

Sounds it. I can't believe just how lame the solo tone was on Belief! Like a TS9 into a Fender.

Steve Jordan. Amazing drummer.

Played with many many famous people. Including John Scofield in the 80s.

Present drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan) isn't bad either

I quite like Johns tone actually. Especially the black Strat.

Thanks for posting that clip max, interesting to hear a different d-flavor.

BTW I am still collecting pictures of Dumble amps if anyone has any to contribute please e-mail me @ GDClarkProject@Gmail.com. I just havn't figured out a way to properly execute a website so that everybody can get actual resources out of.Yet still remaining to have some Wikipedia type features.

I've been enjoying Dumble's newer era Faceplates , quite sleek IMO.. Jelle's amps kinda got the same thing goin on........

Yes, this was my reason to post this clip. It's a pity, that I could not find a "better" one. There have been really sweet gainy "clean" sounds in this beast. This Dumbleland with the 11 step filters with inductor, the Mid-Accent (bit different cap than the usual accent switch AFAIR) and this internal gain pot was very versatile. You could adjust the internal gain trim pot to even higher gain settings than you hear in this clip. And some of the positions of the 11 step "high" filter could deliver very smooth tones (reduction of brightness, more prominent mids). I always thought of this Dumbleland as being some kind of "organ" with a lot of different "stops". Lots of fun to play this beast. For SRV tones I liked it best with a Dumble 4 x 12" with EVM 12L speakers - singsssss...

Cheers,

Max

In regard to "a different d-flavor":

From the guitar tones I hear on this CD and as this concert took place only a very short time after he got his SSS, I am rather sure that here is Larry Carlton Live with his SSS (please correct me if you have been there and know for sure that this is wrong):

http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Clarke-Ca ... B0000029D1

Anyway, and whatever he played at this concert:

This kind of guitar tones IMO could have been provided by this "11 step Dumbleland", too, if you set it up this way. Just to give you a further impression of Dumbleland "lead tones".

BTW: great music, great band, great playing, great guitar tones (IMO).

Cheers,

Max
