Billy Zoom trashing Dumbles

Post by LeftyStrat »

"It's a copy of a Twin with one cap changed"

And later in the thread..

"The FET input goes to that vertical card on the far left. It's a solid-state fuzz pedal mounted inside the amp."

Funny stuff:

Wow, I didn't know so many bitter people hung out in one place.

Most of them obviously have no idea what they are talking about.

Particularly Billy Zoom.

Only one cap difference!

Thanks, I actually did search for Zoom before I posted and nothing came up.

It's important for rockabilly posers to appear to have a blue collar ethic and dis any piece of gear that wasn't recorded at sun records. Ironic how a bunch of fakes spout off about authenticity when they never had an original idea in their head.

Any amp can sound great if you play with your legs spread wide enough and have enough sparkles on your guitar.

The Japanese have a saying that goes something like "The nail that sicks up gets pounded back down."

Anything exceptional must be a myth...

As far as amp builder/artists go, I'm much more curious what was going on in Frank Marino's amp than Billy Zooms. If blackface fender is as good as it gets, why bother building anything at all?

What especially funny, is fender changed more than one cap in the twins over the years.

Ignorant idiots.

Wow.
Thanks for posting guys - this makes my level of ignorance a little less embarassing.
At least I know.

I'm going to stay out of the fray on this one but Billy Zoom has been an amp-tech to the stars in Southern California for a long time. sh

Which suggests to me it wasn't outright ignorance, but rather intentional dis-information laced with a little sour grapes.

Quite apropos when considered in the context of the thread Martin posted.

I've met Billy before, let's just say LA is the perfect place for him.

Which is strange, because the few times I've had the chance to talk to John Doe, he always came across like one of the most genuine people in the world.

late to the show but I swore I read an interview where ha said he built his stage amps himself. I seems like I might be recalling correctly based on the later posts. I swore it was in Guitar Player...

Billy does do a great Marshall mod, but he's no Alexander Dumble.

I can't believe no one has chimed in on that BZ thread - One cap change makes a Twin an ODS - wow, makes you also question the statement about being able to design an amp from the ground up without copying any legacy designs. I figure if any one did try and present the facts they would be called a Kool-Aid drinker... Must resist urge to flame idiocy threads
