#183 has Marshall 100W type iron and came with EL34's. Pick a 100W Marshall OT. I have a Dagnall C1998(early Plexi) clone in mine pushed by Genelex KT77's.

The Dynaco A470 you reference is an amazing OT. I have used it with 4X6V6, 4XEL84, pairs of 6L6s, and pairs EL34. It is my goto 50 watt OT. If you are building a 50 watt 183 then its a good choice. It has however the wrong primary impedance (4.3K) for use with 4XEL34s. You need something in the 1.5-2k range. I think a 100 watt Marshall OT is the correct choice for your 183 build.

I agree with RB I have also used the A470 in many different amps.

You could go with the A470S bigger brother the A431S

while its doesnt technically match 183 specs - its just an amazing OT for any dumble style build. It you want spot on - then no - if you want a great OT then yes.

Still wrong input Z for a 100W, unless you plan on running it at 2, 4, 8 ohm out.

You could do a couple of KT88's and high voltage (550), but I've always wondered if a two tube 100w amp would exhibit the same girth as a four tuber.

Also the earliest single OT KT66 JTM100s used 4k. Though I think they were actually closer to 70w because of the load.

its funny that you mention KT88's - I had asked around quite a bit with a few builders about a 4x KT88 with Verb for the longest time, everyone kept giving me googly eyes and saying it can't be done or I can't do it..

Ultimately I run stereo 99% of the time so I use a Dirty and and a clean amp for modulation etc so I always thought a 100watt KT88 head with verb would be a power house of cleans for pedals- apply a dumble style tonestack to it and it could be an insanely useful amp to have for pedal junkies, nobody has seemed to crack that code yet.

the plan is to use 183 for leads in conjunction with some good dirt pedals for the clean side.

Thanks again for the tranny selections ,I'm going to post up these links in the 183 thread.

What modern KT88 tube is going to last with 550V on the plates around 540V on the screens?

I sat up a Brownnote D'lite with dual KT88's at just under 500V with an 80W hi-fi style OT, plenty of balls.
