Dumbleland Silver Alligator Inspired Build
Thought I would share with you my latest build. It been on and (mostly) off for the last 18 months but have really got into it over the last couple of weeks and am glad to say that I'm almost there!
Thought I would have a go at building an amp inspired by the EF86 Silver Alligator. I got most of the info from this thread, http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... sc&start=0 and the rest is guess work!
The mixer circuit has got me stumped, a lot of guessing but fingers crossed If anybody has any ideas I would be glad to hear some suggestions.
At the moment I'm using Twin Reverb trannies until I find some thing close to the MM trannies. So voltage will be closer to a SSS.
Thanks,
Aaron

Thanks guys.
Now I understand why HAD charged so much for the SSS/Dumbleland family, talk about labour intensive!
Power supply tonight,

Re: Dumbleland Silver Alligator Inspired Build
Twin reverb choke too?
Re: Dumbleland Silver Alligator Inspired Build
Yes, and twin output. Originally had Marshall iron in there until I realised it was the low volt type So using the twin to get it up and running.M Fowler wrote:Twin reverb choke too?

Do you have a schematic and layout for this amp that you can share? I didn't see one on the thread you referenced.
Thanks
Eric

There is a schematic in the picture

Well, good news and bad news....
Good news - all wired up and nothing blew (yet)
Bad news - no sound
But have taken measurements for trouble shooting.
Goodnight,
Aaron

I'll post the schematic that I drew up tomorrow night. It's 3am here and I've got to get up for work in 4 hours!dreric wrote:Aaron

Progress report......
Well it works.....nearly. Just trying to get the tremolo to work. For some reason I'm not getting any volts on the cathodes. Replaced the valve, still didn't work, so unless the valve holder is faulty, I'm open to suggestions?
My first build with reverb too! I never really liked "Fender" reverb, too sproingy so always used a reverb pedal. But this reverb is gorgeous. Love it!
Just finalising some voltages, so schematic will be finished soon too.
Cheers,
Aaron

Re: Dumbleland Silver Alligator Inspired Build
Very nice!
I've been curious about this amp for a long time.
A friend of mine who is a member here actually played the silver alligator and remarked that it was the best clean sound he had ever heard from a guitar amp. I've built a very stripped down 50 watt version. No reverb, no tremolo, with a 12AX7/12BH7 PI/cathode follower and absolutely love it. I really like the EF86 preamp, and with the PI/CF it just gets louder and silkier as you turn up. A member here who goes by svempan also built a 50 watter loosely based on this amp and very graciously gave me some help on mine.
Bravo Aaron!
