SSS #5 Clone?
Sorry if this is a little off the primary function of the forum, but does anyone know of someone who builds a SSS clone of #5 besides Bludotone? Looking something that offers that huge clean sound, but 2 years is a long time to wait.
Thanks.
Thanks.

What is your budget and where do you live?
Sorry that sounds like a scam.
But are you in the USA, and how much do you want to spend?

Re: SSS #5 Clone?
Is there any info on #5? Is this the Eric Johnson one?
Reason being, in the SRV book it mentions that his SSS's were serial #5 and #6.
Cheers,
Aaron

Re: SSS #5 Clone?
AFAIK Brandon (Bludo) only does the one Eric owned..I think that one is currently owned by Carlos Santana.. The other reputable builders I recommend are either Jelle Welagan (not sure which one he does) or Bill Sebago Sound does an affordable #002 (owned by J Mayer) version..Texas flood I believe he calls it.. The Ceriatone version's I have heard I didn't care for as much..Opinions very though..The version I built is off of #002 and sounds wonderful!!
Good Luck

I have no love for the 150 watt SSS 100 pounds and 288 pound 4 x 12 speaker cabinet.
And if you get flight cases the weight goes up. #005 and #007 are not the same amps.
The small stages I play on the 150 watt SSS is useless . I am in love with Angles Breath
Sorry I'm under contract not to share the above mentioned amps.
#005 has a little give to it #007 is stiff no break up at full volume I have built both amps.
I don't sell amps so don't ask.
If I wanted a 150 SSS I would get on the waiting list two years goes by faster than you think.
This is a photo of the real #005 SSS.
Steve.

That's a pretty mean rig right there.

Thanks for the info so far! That rig if pretty astounding. Yes, I am in the US.
Re: SSS #5 Clone?
The thing that gets me about Santana's rig, is that 90% percent of his playing/sound is lead. His clean sound is never really mentioned. Is there any clips of his clean SSS sound?
It's like an old lady driving a Ferrari to the the corner shops to get bread and milk. So under utilized.
Nothing against Carlos, love his music.

I stand corrected. Found this on his Facebook page.
Man he's got that master volume cranked!

Careful with the Ceriatone version...
In their manual, I don't see the PPI CF (driver tube) listed in the tube compliment....page 12
http://www.ceriatone.com/Manuals/Ceriat ... al_nik.pdf
That probably has something to do with what this:

Without that tube in the circuit,,,all bets are offThe Ceriatone version's I have heard I didn't care for as much..
Re: SSS #5 Clone?
Yeah but he has the input Vol on like 2Man he's got that master volume cranked!
To get mine to sing I have to run the amp opposite...Hey whatever sounds good to you!!

Yeah, the way he has it is kind of like running a fender on 2. Not too much fun stuff happening on 2, especially with the pre on 2 because your not really pushing any of the stages.talbany wrote:Yeah but he has the input Vol on like 2Man he's got that master volume cranked!

Re: SSS #5 Clone?
SRV ran his amps similar too. Lower pre with a higher master.
I've found the same with my Dumbleland build, sounds better with the master at least past 7.
Cheers,
Aaron

Really it's not like you have to worry about preamp distortion..I can't get mine to break up!!mhartman wrote:Yeah, the way he has it is kind of like running a fender on 2. I tried everything all the way up on mine (filters off for maximum signal). Still not much break up except the speakers. It was fun to do and the guitar "sang" in a really cool way, but damn my ears rang for a week.talbany wrote:
