Anybody try Warehouse Speakers WGS12L?
Hello, I watched a Youtube comparison of an original EVM 12L and Warehouse speakers WGS12L and was impressed by the Warehouse speaker. It sounded rounder and less metallic on the high end. The demo was not done using a Dumble type amp but this still interests me. I called Warehouse Speakers and although they do not list a 4 ohm version, they said they could do one. I may be in the minority but I do not like the sound of an 8 ohm speaker being driven by a 4 ohm OT. It sounds kind of hollow to me. I currently have a Mojotone multi impedance tap OT in my ODS so I can use an 8 ohm speaker but I have a 1970 Dual Showman OT sitting on my bench that I would love to put in my amp.

Hi Charlie,
I have a vague memory of this speaker being mentioned here on TAG in the past. I just went to the WGS website to see the price on this speaker and realized I had recently done the same lookup. This is the only forum I read, so I'm thinking I found out about this speaker here. You might try a search of the forum for it.
Cheers,
Lou
Edit: but this is my favorite speaker (the EV), so I am looking forward to your review.

Yeah Lou I did a search and the only Warehouse speaker that came up was the WGS1265. I like EVs also but they are a little hard on the high end with overdrive. I would like to push the treble a bit on my Low Plate Classic to get it to sing a little more but my 80s EVM 12S gets pretty harsh. The WGS 12L sounds like it is a bit sweeter and even on the high end and if I could get one that is 4 ohm that would be a bonus.

Doveman, actually I never tried it. I got a little frustrated that I couldn't get a straight answer on whether or not a 4 ohm was an option and decided to stick with my EVM-12S. I still think their 8 ohm speaker, at least from the clips I heard, sounds pretty good.

Run two 8 ohm speakers in parallel for four ohms?

Anybody have any experience with the Eminence EM12?
http://www.eminence.com/speakers/speake ... egend_EM12
seems like it might be a less expensive alternative

I purchased one of these, but have not had time to put in my cabinet.
There is a Delta-Pro 12A in there now and it sounds very good.
The cabinet is a d-style 1x12 open-back (http://stagecraftgear.com/product/elite-1x12/).
Will have to try the EM12 soon, but I'm spending more time practicing/playing because my amp really sounds good!

when possible
interested in what you think of the differences between the 2 speakers
a quote from Eminence site
" Unlike the Delta Pro, the Legend EM12 is optimized specifically for guitar players, and offers a more neutral tone so you can hear more of your amp and guitar.”
thanks

This will be the last unrelated comment.
D,
The first impression of this speaker is that it has more definition and clarity than the Delta Pro 12A. It has more brilliance, but the high end does not seem to have that 'icepick' treble quality.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I now seem to be able to hear more of the quality of the silver mica 390pF mid cap and I don't like it; need to change to a ceramic (so much for taking a recommendation despite knowing about the tonal quality of silver mica caps in general...)
The character of the speaker will be interesting to hear as it breaks in. I may have to do the 'variac-expedited' break-in method just to hurry the process along. Also, I'd like to get a TL-806 style enclosure to see how it functions in that cabinet; have to build one...
Regards,
-jack
