That's correct, but you can also run it on 4, it's will load the tubes differently and sound a little different, but it's not going to cause a meltdown.

Not really trying to breathe new life into this thread, but the clip at the top - that forumites were enjoying of this amp - was indeed with the impedance "mismatched". As brownnote stated above - if it won't cause a meltdown, it may be a viable place to leave the selector. I was very happy running an 8 ohm speaker on the 8 ohm "position" with 6L6. A little quieter, but not any less pleasing.
