Tone switch for Dumble Style Overdrive to smooth out..

Post by jazzcat »

Great sounding Amps.
How does this switch work technical ?
Seems to be great for balancing clean ond overdrive side....

Probably a simple fixed treble bleed somewhere in the OD part of the preamp. I think he said it was a 3 way so say:
normal
300K>.002>ground
150K>.01> ground

Pick any values you like.

you could put in a 1M pot wired as a rheostat and audition differnt caps to see how dark, or "smooth" you like it.

Thank you!
Dumble Amps always seem to have the stuggle between the two stages.

Usually the bleed goes at the end of the OD, so say right before the "ratio" pot.

I seen switches for the snubbers to cut highs, too. Something like
330pF
680pF
1200pF
on V2b could be effective in smoothing OD.
It's true i've lost my marbles and i cant remember where i put them

sorry, I know this thread is a little bit old ... but :

I've a Fuchs ODS 30 and trying to get a "clearer" ( "sparkling" ? sorry for my poor English language ... ), by selecting my preamp tubes with different NOS, I succeed to get
a nice result,
The counterpart is ... a bright aggressive OD :( ( I try different tubes and to adjust the internal trimmers without real success )

Of course, I didn't have the schematic of my ODS30 ( looks like Andy Fuchs have copied AH Dumble, but doesn't wish to give the schematic to the Customer ?! ) ( of course, if someone has this schematic ... it could be a dream for me to get it ... !)

so, THIS mod here could help me a lot and, if I could put a three way switch like in this Kingsley Bastion (normal, smooth, smoother) , It would probably solve my problem :

So, as I'm not an expert, could you describe this mod WITH SCHEMATIC , please :D (the next step for me will be to do some reverse-engineering to imagine the Fuchs ODS30 schematic and the right place to put this mod ! )

Many thanks for all ideas, helps, schematics

All you need to do is e mail techsupport@fuchsaudio.com we can assist you in tweaking your amp. Perhaps include some chassis pictures of your main board so we can see what revision it is.

Sorry, a bit late to answer : a great thank for the proposal

Recently , I have bought a new pot for the OD volume and have to change it .

Great thanks to Annette and Rich for the Help and the explanations : Hey, I NEVER said that I didn't get support : Quite the contrary: they directed me directly to what could be the cause of my problem and offered me only the parts concerned ! ( and it was fast, despite I'm in the wrong side of the pond :D )

It's only, as I explained before that, By choosing Tubes and Loudspeaker to get a more "Fenderish" clean, my OD is a bit too much "trebly", Harsh (?).

As I will change the pots, I will go again to the fine tuning of the three internal pots and see what I can improve : I will keep you inform ... and at this time, for sure, your help will be welcome :D

Anyway thanks for your answer ( and your ... AMPS ! == a modified kind of Dumble WITH (excellent) reverb, real complete active loop, and this quality for this range of price : ... hard to beat  )

I have a Kingsley Bastion 40. If your referring to the switch for the amp to change channels and eq lift?

1st switch just changes channels from clean to OD. 2nd switch is an eq lift. Bypasses the tone banks but the 2 stage bright switch is still engaged if you want.

Eq lift is a big volume boost. That help?
