Silverface Deluxe Reverb to 50 watt SSS?

Post by Travis_HY »

Before you think "Why does this guy want to dress a mouse up like a tiger?" Let me explain.

I have a 1979 silverface Deluxe Reverb that I've had for over a decade. I have other amps that are very similar sounding and I'd like to get a different flavor. I want a loud and clean combo for pedals.

Now my idea is to build a 50 (or 60) watt SSS type PA around this PT with two 6L6's (or maybe 6550's?). I'm probably going to have to swap the OT's with a Bassman OT which I think will fit on the chassis but...

The output transformer would have to rotated 90 degrees. The laminates of the OT are still 90 degrees off the plain of the laminates for the PT. Do you think this would be a problem? Seems like there is a lot of conflicting information about this topic and I don't know what the best course is.

Thanks Guys!
