SSS Chassis Dimensions

Post by Krinkle »

Watts Tube Audio sells blank aluminum chassis' at very reasonable prices, $52.00 for 24"x8"x2.5", for example. I emailed to see if they would stock an SSS sized blank chassis and Ken responded and seemed interested. I gave him an estimate of the dimensions but I wasn't 100% sure.

My estimate was 0.090" aluminum at 26.5" x 8.25" x 2.75". Anybody know the actual dimensions?

The head cab mounting nuts should be 3 apiece on the front and rear lip/flanges with no side/end lip/flanges. Anybody know the nut distances along the flange? One centered and x" to both sides.

Any other details, keeping in mind that it will be a blank?

Bueller, Bueller, anyone, anyone?

So, seeing how nobody here knows the size of the SSS chassis, :? , is there a consensus on the height of the chassis? 2.5" or 2.75"? I've heard both mentioned.

And the answer is ... it depends.

SSS02 (i.e., Mayer SSS) 23.75"x8.05"x2.50"
SSS05 26.50"x8.50"x2.75"

SSS amps were pretty much all "one offs". The others could be other sizes, but the SSS05 size appears to be the same as SSS04 and some of the later SSS amps, but I haven't had those to measure, so I would be guessing.

Enjoy!

I have one more full size SSS powdercoated chassis if you want it send me a PM. It only has octals drilled, but the face and back are fully drilled and silkscreened.

Why do you think they are different sizes?

I always thought they were all 26.5" wide as well. Below a pic of #002 on top of an Alessandro Cab which is 28" wide

#2 looks smaller than the 28" cabinet below it in that pic.

Yes indeed, which is why it is probably 26.5"

The 26.5" is the chassis dimension - which would put the head box at ~28.125"

mhartman measurements check out imo

Good point, thanks for the correction

There was an older post saying the Silver Alligator head box was 12"H, 28.25"W, 10.5"D

Now it makes sense why the #004 sits perfectly on top of the Alessandro cab (I thought it was a smaller speaker cab)

Well, it was built in Overdrive Reverb chassis, so makes sense. I thought the ODR chassis might have been bigger originally.
Thanks.

Indeed the #002 looks same size as an ODR. This is the Overdrive Reverb #59 on top of a Alessandro Cab
