Combo Cabinet - Need Help Please

Post by jam-mill »

Starting to design a combo cabinet to give plans to a builder.

Chassis is 19.25" x 8" x 2.5", so the cabinet width will need to be 21".

Is the cabinet depth 10"?

What is the depth for the baffle board?
What is the depth for the back panel?

Is the speaker centered in the baffle?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I think if you do a search there's an actual Dumble combo plan somewhere on the forum posts.

Maybe there is something useful here? I have NO idea if the cab dimension plans are accurate? Just sharing something that I found on the internet. Maybe someone here can confirm whether these would work or not?

I have a combo cabinet made by Tubetown that came today.
It's empty for the next few days.
If you're interested I can shoot some pics.

I did some plans for a head shell a few years ago, published them on the Ceriatone forum

http://ceriatoneforum.com/overtone/head ... ttach=1320

SImple enough to extend the sides to make room for the baffle.

Let me know if you'd like me to adapt the plan, it wouldn't take very long at all.

I now recall I did make an OTS Combo, it currently has my Ceriatone DZ-30 sitting in it. Found the drawing, tarted it up with proper dimensions. Here it is .

Attached a Two Rock combo. The oval on the back looks bigger than the one indicated on the template (although Two Rock is not Dumble)

The ones from Taylor are Average dimensions for a 1×12” – 20.5”W x 20.5”T x 10.25”D: http://amplifiednation.com/cabinets/

I am wondering if anyone ever made one of those Dumble combos for a 10inch speaker?

Thanks a lot for the plan Jack!

I am in doubt between loading one of those with a neo 12" speaker which is light or if I go slightly smaller for a greenback 10" or a Eminence Ragin Cajun 10" which I heard great things about

Which wood are you planning to use?

On this 50W 4x10 combo http://www.theguitarsanctuary.com/Two-R ... p/8835.htm http://www.two-rock.com/ownersmanuals/A ... esheet.pdf
Two Rock went furniture grade poplar ply
The cabinet design has also been op mized with a new wood type. During development we experimented with several di erent types of wood and se led on a furniture grade poplar ply that brought the amp to life with a more percussive and lively sonic quality. Since we were going for a more “vintage” vibe, we did try a pine cab. Unfortunately, we were concerned with the consistency of pine cabs as the wood can vary from batch to batch. The poplar ply we chose, gave us the same feel and response as the pine, but gave us the consistency we were a er.
Tomo Fujita Two Rock is Japanese Pine

Here a lot of measurements from Two Rock:
http://www.two-rock-jp.com/products-speakercabs.html

1-12 Extension Cabinet: 610mm wide x 457mm tall x 305mm deep
2-12 Extension cabinet: 21” wide x 26.5” tall x 12”deep

Birch ply:
1-12 Signature Cab: 21” wide x 22” tall x 13”deep
2-12 Signature Cab: 21” wide x 29” tall x 12” deep

And as far as wood:
The standard Two Rock cabs were made of aviation grade birch ply. The custom order cabs (like the Mayer and Tomo Fujita combo and heads/cabs) were made of Japanese solid pine. They were made for Two Rock by Mitch Nagasawa at String Driver Cabs in Japan; http://www.sd-cab.com/index.html

Tomo is using Eminence Tonespotter speakers and Mayer a Gold (both 50Watt combos)
