New Dumble Tweedle Dee by Welagen

Post by HeeBGB »

So Jelle pretty much built this for me. Even supplied all the parts except for the iron, chassis speaker and cab. I just put the lacquer on it today and re-assembled.

Amp sounds awesome. Thank Jelle

Great looking amp. How does it compare to a great 5E3, both amps have big reputations.

Mark,

It's still very 5E3 just think more aggressive with more headroom. I know that sounds contradictory but that's my story and I'm sticking to it

Just use a higher wattage OT then what the 5E3 calls for.

When I was at Jelle's shop we played it through his bench cab with an EV12L and then he brought in a 5E3 tweed cab with a rocket 50 in it. It was good with both speakers but I preferred the EV. I think Jelle prefers the rocket 50 iirc.

The Greenback is what I had laying around. I do have an Italian Jensen C12N I may try though

I went through a few speakers to find one that I liked. Tried the Rocket 50, Eminence Alnico, EVM 12L, Celestion Black Shadow, WGS ET65.
I ended up staying with the Celestion Black Shadow.....for now.

Cool, I have a Celestion Black Shadow. They don't have a lot of bass but this could be good for an 5E3 type amp.

I first tried the Celestion G12M green back 25w, 75hz bass response until my Celestion Rocket 50 speaker arrived and I kept the Rocket speaker.

Good lookin' amp. Really do like that circuit and believe it is an improvement on a classic. Not too far departed but, just enough. Have built several for me - when I let friends and family play them - I never get them back......

What is different between the green back and the Rocket speaker. I ask as the green back sounds good in an open back cab too.
Yours Sincerely
