One additional part to this that I just thought of, if the signal goes to ground there, it's also not going through the next stage at all, it resides in that stage, right?

The current stays in that stage (well, most of it does). But the signal still goes on to the next stage as voltage. This voltage then causes current fluxuations in the next stage. So, the signal goes dn. "Can't stop the signal, Mal" -- Mr. Universe, Serenity

I think Merlin Blencowe's chapter on grounding is excellent. It took a whole lot of the black magick out of grounding amps for me:

+1 for the Serenity quote, love that movie and the tv series! :)

And now back to your regularly scheduled program.

I've got the merlin book and have read it thoroughly, but I think it's time I re-read it, but I've got to finish the book I'm reading now, the other Merlin book on HIFI :)
