Tweedle D speaker recommendations

Post by Rockwell666 »

I ordered a 5e3 kit from Tube depot during one of their big sales and I am doing it as a Tweedle D. H.A.D liked the Rocket 50 speaker. the kit has the stock Jensen and I know I will probably not like it. any other speaker suggestions for the Tweedle D circuit? I am a les paul player and cant wait to crank it up when its done. i was actually thinking a G12M might be a nice fit.

I haven't done the tweedle d mod to my 5e3, so take this with a grain if salt: I have the Tone Tubby Hempcone Alnico (the red one) in mine and love it. Other good choices, IMO would be the cream back celestion heritage G12-65 (the robin ford speaker), Elvtrovoice EVM12L (I own and regularly use the 12L and have played the G12-65 many time - both great speakers. Though I have never tried one (yet) the Eminence Pete Anderson Hempdog looks interesting (I believe Mark Fowler recently used one in one of his builds, and had good things to say about it, and it's reasonably priced).

The rocket is cheap :-) I personally like the 70/80's and I think it would also be a good fit. The EV12L I have zero experience with, prob alittle overkill on this amp.

I used the Rocket in my Tweedle Dee.

The Hemp Dog Pete Andersen speaker is in my under bench test cab.

I was told that Dumble would use the Rocket or Celestion Greenback in these.

I have no experience with this speaker, but based on the style and sounds from Josh Smith, this new 50 watt Eminence Josh Smith Signature might be worth checking out. I'll buy one at some point. Also, surprisingly inexpensive for a "signature" model at around $99. Here's a demo...

See if you can find a EVi 12 (lower wattage 150w version of EVM12L). ALso easier on the back. 😉
If it sounds good, it is good! Trust your ears
