#102-a truly versatile amp

Post by norburybrook »

I've been in the studio this week recording a solo album after years as a sideman/producer.

the #102 has been my go to amp for a wide variety of tracks.

here's a little taster of what a lovely clean sound it can produce. The cab is the ported 'larry carlton' EVM-12L mic'd with an SM57, and a 1960's Neumann U67. Guitar straight into the amp. Telecaster with an 'Oil City' hand wound P90. Reverb and FX added later.

P.S. Glad your 102 turned out so well. My 102 isn't that great. I'm imagining I need to replace the Prosonic OT with a Bassman OT. I've changed most everything else and it's still lame.
Nice sounds on your recording.

Awesome tone Marcus !
I have a tele 62' custom reissue, and always wondered if adding a P90 would be a nice option... And here you are !
Love the warmth and definitionof your tone, subtle and defined.
Interesting composition as well!

Any other samples to share ?

Lovely Marcus! Both tone and playing are excellent.
Dumblelator was in the loop, or did you do it without it on this one?

Thanks Erwin.

No dumbleator, Just the guitar straight into the amp. I wanted a pure tone and then added reverb and delay afterwards. It was actually quite loud for a quiet track, if you get my drift, look at the settings. I had the guitar volume down a bit and that tends to roll off some highs, which worked for this track.

Fred,

we shot some video in the studio so there will be some sort of promo vid at some point, it's being edited now.

I will post a few audio clips on this thread as and when they're done as an example of what a wide variety of tones came out of a couple of telecasters and the #102.

I did use my trainwreck rocket along side the #102 for a few things which I think adds a certain something. It's subtle when blended in but I'm always in search of 'tone' :D

thanks Barry, that's a great compliment.

I nearly tagged my post on the end of the 'why Dumble cleans?' thread. For me this is a great example of why dumble cleans.

I definitely agree on the cleans. I really like my JM Sig clone as well, and the 2nd gen I built. All a
little different, but all chewy with very musical sustain.

OK, as this thread is about the versatility here's an audio snippet showing the OD.

Thinline telecaster, Bridge humbucker, tone rolled off to 6, guitar straight into amp.

this is one for the few covers on the album..you'll know what it is :D
