I built this for the Dragon Bat! Low plate classic with reverb and 1/2 loop

Post by amplifiednation »

100w with 50w half power switch

One of my custom chassis with a handrilled preamp board. Amp is the JM clean channel with low plate classic OD channel, 100k trimmer.

Reverb is super full "two tube (12AT7)" with preset "send" after the preamp, level control on the front, and a 1/2 Dumbelator built in with overall global master on the back (that's the unlabeled control)

Stranded teflon wire throughout, some custom parts, but mostly mouser and CE dist stock items.

BADASS tones...and man the reverb is great. HUGE OD, I used 100kl drive and ratio pots.

Custom Order from the Dragon Bat...dragonbat13

The orange heart inside the white heart (footswitch jack wiring) is a nice touch....

What a beautiful looking amp Taylor! Nothing beats JM clean channel. I stopped playing a #124 once I played a JM clean channel. So smooth sounding. I switched mine to run EL34s and like it even more, overdrive pedal sounds tighter too! I was surprised at how nice these amps sound with EL34s the midrange is fuller and more my taste.

I noticed that this has 5 preamp tubes and your JM/Wonderland also had 5 preamp tubes but did not have overdrive. I know that in the JM/Wonderland the 1st tube drives the signal and the tone stack then the 2nd and 3rd tubes drive the reverb . Then I believe 4th tube mixes the dry and wet signal and the 5th is the phase inverter. Does this mean that their is 1 tube instead of 2 working the reverb in this new amp and then one tube that mixes wet and dry signal?
Really great workmanship Taylor !

Cheers

thanks!!!

only one 1/2 tube driver, then 1/2 tube recovery (v3). The reverb and dry is mixed back together at v4 just with common 100k 1k5 setup. The signal is taken off the return loop jack, dry signal goes to the 1/2 loop (recovery).

The 100kl pots make a huge difference in the gain channel. I know that is well documented, and many search for the elusive 30% taper...but I must say i agree 100%. Using 10% audio pots for the OD channels on these amps makes them feel wussy!!!
