#0183 Build

Post by ijedouglas »

Here are some pics of my #0183 build. I couldn't be happier with this build. Big thanks to all on this forum for the information that helped me get to this point.

 Neat built Ian! It looks like you have done that many times before.
The last pic is interesting: How does your build compare to the real one?
Can you give some insight on the #17x, historics etc?

Thanks Erwin. I'm still getting the hang of it. I can pretty much dial the 2 to sound pretty close. The Dumble has less gain and is slightly more refined but I think with more break in the new build will smooth out.

Thanks Marcus. I had been following your builds and decided on the #183 after seeing your last build :) The Deluxe is a '72 and is pretty beat up but my "go to" and sounds amazing through these amps.

Cool and you are welcome :D

After you burn the amp in with the EH's look at hunting down a Quad of Winged C's. Just loaded up a quad in my Music Man. A nice improvement over the JJ's/ EH's (same tube really) IMO

Are you talking about the Svetlana winged C EL34's Tony? I have the 6CA7's in my #183. Those Svetlana are about $275 for a quad here in the UK.

Yeah
The older original out of production SED Winged C's that were made by JSC in St. Peterburg Russia :D

The CURRENT Svetlana tubes are made by Reflektor/New Sensor plant, home of Sovtek, Mullard Reissue, Tung-Sol reissue, Electro-Harmonix etc are not the ones I am talking about

The New Stock 6CA7 JJ (Big bottle)decent tube but a different animal and IMO are constructed, sound and perform differently than the NOS (soft vacuum) 6CA7's from the 60's and 70's. These are considered the "grail" 6CA'7's and are great tubes but really expensive and IMO can be debated if they are worth the investment.

IMO the "St Petersburg' made Svets are the closest your going to get to the older "6CA7/EL-34' sound without the exorbitant price of the NOS "grail versions" I just mentioned ie (Mullard/Amperex/Telefunkin etc)

BTW. The current production tubes that are made in the " Reflektor plant" are all fine sounding tubes and it's not like I am knocking them or anyone else still producing vacuum tubes in a world that has relatively little demand for them (God Bless them for all there work!) Same with the Chinese!
