Paging Andy Fuchs/Associates

Post by jaysg »

I have a ~2008 100 ODS w/reverb head in. SN 189x, inked on HRM.1 It is very noisy on the OD channel. To be clear, it can't be used live. Clean is just fine: B+ is 505V, and the biases all read between 36 and 38mV, assuming a 1 ohm resistor...green things.

I have my own non-HRM modded Fender and it is significantly quieter, so I'm looking for some help. V1 & V2 are some sort of EH. V3 & V4 are Ruby. Output tubes are TAD. I have swapped all tubes with known good ones. Functionality is all as expected...no different on Footswitch vs. panel switches.

Please contact me and I can certainly send pictures if needed.

I've deleted a few of what looked like duplicates, but who is Greg?

Oh gotcha, yeah technically he still 'is' but hasn't been moderating in forever. I do see, though, that he's been active recently!?

I bought a Sammi from Greg once. I'm not very active here, but no one from Fuchs has replied, so I would love some help with this amp. The guy has been using the Clean channel only and I'm not sure where to start with the noise on the OD, since the tubes seem to check out. My experience is that I'm rarely the first guy to run into whatever problem there is with fill-in-the-blank.

[edit] See below...yes, that is where I contacted them

If you can post some gut shots, we may be able to assist. Andy is on the forums from time to time as well, he's more frequent on facebook if you wanted to try them there. Have you tried their Contact Us link? http://fuchsaudiotechnology.com/contact-us/

There are no...sigh...black spots. I do appreciate when a product has blown a part and you can see it.

I have swapped with good tubes and read off the B+ (505) and stable bias currents (36 to 38mA).

Oh...V1 and V2 are hiding in the front under the green pcb for inputs.

Yeah I don't see anything obviously wrong either. Have you tried chopsticking the amp with the OD engaged to see if something specific makes it worse or better? Could be a component has just gone out, Coupling caps can sometimes go out and go microphonic, touching them will make this pretty apparent.

Why not e mail tech support directly ? Pictures of the board and such may help. No reason for it to be any more or less noisy then any other d style. Is there a FET by-chance on the board ?
