Current production 12AX7s

Post by kleinm »

I was wondering what your guys' thoughts are on current production 12AX7s. I'm back in school, so I don't have the money for NOS tubes anymore. I know this has been brought up before (done many searches), but I have some questions that haven't been addressed.

I currently have EHs in V1 and V3, and a silver-plated Chinese 12AX7 in V2.

I'm particularly curious what you like in each position, and why.

I'd also be curious what you think of the newer offerings like the New Sensor Mullard ECC83, New Sensor Tung-Sol 12AX7, JJ ECC83S and 803 Gold Pin (not because of the gold pin, but because of their different construction and plate coating), etc.

I'm trying to find a tube that has a tight bottom and chimey high-end for V1, rich harmonics, fat midrange, and smooth high end for V2, and well...anything that works reliably in V3.

Thanks.

Try a Short plate JJ in V1, an EH in V2, and your choice in the PI

FWIW Alot of the Real Dumbles I've seen have 3 Beijing production Grey plate 12AX7's

I Also like the new Reflektor Mullard copy, VERY gainy though.
