Russian Silver Mica Treble Cap for my Ojai - pic

Post by Audiodog »

So I ordered a bunch of stuff from Parts Connexion to try out in my multitude of clones. Resistors from Takman and TKD and a couple of Russian 400pf Silver Mica caps.

Today I installed one of the silver mica's in my Ojai, replacing the CDM yellow 390pf (same as the type on the bright switch). I also tried another yellow silver mica and a nice ceramic 390pf. The Russian cap had way more harmonic quality in a good way and was not as grainy, but loaded with harmonics. The amp fed back much easier with it. I think it may be worthwhile to try these and see what you all think. I also put in a cool looking Takman for the pre OD feed. I added a 4.7K to bring up the measurement to 320 as my trimmer was 96K. Just because I could! The amp does have a binch of vintage resistors and caps, and seasoned Fender 4 ohm iron. It is amazing....

Here is a pic of the cap.

Interesting amp :D
I have never had much luck with Russian caps however, I have not yet tried their ceramics?
I see on the plates you have as 220k's the NTE's what are the 150's (Roederstein's?) I do like the Nichicons on bypass spot and of course the q-line slope..What mid cap is that?..You should try an old Carbon Comp on the 1m input impedance resistor soften's it up a bit IMO.. It's a subtle mod but noticeable :D
BTW.Have not tried the TDK's but hear good things about them..

Takman? They're green.

Or not, Takmans usually have skinny stripes.

I don't think Takman or Roederstein. Maybe Philips ECG metal films?

Not sure, could be Philips. They are vintage. Brandon tried to make this as close as possible to the real 102.
