183(ish) build
My second Dumble type build. Huge THANK YOU to everyone that has made the layout and schematic freely available here on TAG.
AN Silver chassis
Edcor Iron
3x Noval
4x EL34
Alpha pots
3 footswitchable relays-PAB, FET and OD.
20 AWG solid conductor PVC jacketed wire
Following 183 values shown on current layout by Tony Albany.
https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13095
Current production NTE MF where indicated and CF from Jelle. Caps as noted on layout, all current production.
Not sure why pics are upside down

Re: 183(ish) build
Looking good!
Just a heads up those current production NTE in 1/2W are metal oxide, not metal film.

Re: 183(ish) build
I appreciate the heads up but are you sure?
Their website states they are Metal Film.

I really hope their website is correct because I got quite a few...

Re: 183(ish) build
I just sent an email inquiring about this to NTE's customer service, I'll post here any response I receive.GAStan wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 7:23 pmI appreciate the heads up but are you sure?

Re: 183(ish) build
I am pretty sure, but please let us know what you find. I spoke with several vendors trying to track down any MF they may still have in stock over the summer. A couple confirmed that NTE phased out MF, the shiny blue type you see in many Dumbles and replaced them with MO the dull greyish type you have.GAStan wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 8:02 pmI just sent an email inquiring about this to NTE's customer service, I'll post here any response I receive.GAStan wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 7:23 pmI appreciate the heads up but are you sure?

Re: 183(ish) build
I also sent an inquiry to nteinc.com tech assist. Their datasheet just says "METAL" on the top, not specifying Film or Oxide. Now I'm not so sure they are MF like I was before. Regardless I'm going to see how they sound. If I don't like them I've got a full set of CF from Jelle I can put in with current production Dale RN and CMF MF for plates and cats.dbharris wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 8:45 pm I am pretty sure, but please let us know what you find. Yes I'll definitely post any replies I get from NTE, but might be some time with the Holidays....

Re: 183(ish) build
I agree it does state that.
This is one of the resistors I ordered, HW215 1/2 watt 1k5 MF
https://www.ntepartsdirect.com/ENG/PRODUCT/HW215
It states this is Flameproof Metal Film.
Yet the datasheet available at the bottom only states METAL, not specifying if MF, MO or anything else.
On NTE's website searching for the same part number HW215 gets the same datasheet with no other information.

Tip: once on the product page click CHECK STOCK to see links to several electronic vendors.

Re: 183(ish) build
metal oxide and metal film are all FILM, correct name for metal oxide is metal oxide film..
i think that NTE is MOX blue and gray version the same, only old/new, but to be sure must be destroyed and compare the resistance track inside between those NTE and regular MOX resistor....i never did because i find NTE so rarely in this part of the planet

Re: 183(ish) build
Be careful with this here, the resistor will short once the conformal coating gives out. I would move it away from the nut. jelle

Re: 183(ish) build
Thanks Jelle and Jack for the catch and suggestions.
I'll pt a longer screw and nylon spacer like on the other screw holding the FET board. I don't have any nylon nuts or screws.
