Replace Radio Schack 3v transformer with this????
So I have one of those old electronics shops that sell old stuff and overstocks, "Chesters Electronics" in Kenosha, WI. I found this and want to replace the Radio Schack transformer with this. Is it going to work ok or do I have to wire something different? It's 6.3 v were the Radio Schack one is 3v. I thought I read something about Dumble having a voltage double on this transformer which I wouldnt need...
Cost about $13.00
Thanks in advance Brian
Sorry, my pictures spin 90degrees when I insert them into posts...

Do you have a schematic of what it is that you are replacing? Hard to tell without more clues.
If it is the standard Dumble relay supply, then yes - with modification to the circuit.
I've included a cropped image of #124 to show the connection. 6.3 v TX doubled with a 12 v regulator.

You will not need the doubler circuit, or you need a different TX.

Thank you, Brian

If you already had boards built, couldn't you also use the center tap lead and one of the 6.3v leads? That would essentially turn it into a 3v transformer. Leave the remaining secondary lead floating like you would normally do with the CT.

This transformer will be fine. Which rectifier circuit is on your relay power supply board? Doubler or Full-Wave bridge? If you are using 12V relays, and it's the original doubler, use half of the secondary (6.3VAC). If it's a FWB, use the full secondary (12.6VAC).

OK, full-wave bridge. Use the whole 12.6VAC and you should get around 18V DC input to the regulator. Plenty of headroom for 12V output.
