Sounds pretty good to me.... First effort from my friend Andrew. Needs a bit better mix, but not bad!
Is the world of tube amps in the 11th hour???

Now if we heard you playing the AxeFX we would have a basis for a more valid comparison. It would be a very interesting test. I believe I recall Zucker saying he was selling all his tube gear.

The clip is good but it doesn't make me want to abandon tubes in favor of SS. This is another product for the touring guy that needs his "sound on a pedalboard" when he's at the mercy of rented backline amps.dogears wrote: Is the world of tube amps in the 11th hour???

Zucker posted a 'Dumble Style' clip on TPG using his Axe-FX setup. Sounded pretty good but didn't blow me away.Robert wrote:Now if we heard you playing the AxeFX we would have a basis for a more valid comparison. It would be a very interesting test. Andrew's clip sounds better.

I was talking with a developer at Bell Labs awhile ago. He claims that they're approaching the tube sound with SS devices very quickly.dogears wrote:Is the world of tube amps in the 11th hour???

And I bet he wasn't thinking of digital modeling.

They are going to get there. Face it, tubes and the stuff they drove stopped being an important business a long time ago. Now that the boomers can indulge it is getting a "dead cat bounce". When we are in the home, I don't see the ipod kids replacing us. A cautionary tale for anyone sitting on a pile of NOS tubes thinking they will always go up.
Lighter, but not as much fun, though.

I dunno. Never played one.
I am getting one, if not just for the great effects. Models are a bonus for me.

At :36 he digs into the strings, and it sounds like a modeling amp. Personally, I'm not fond of it.
At other times it doesn't sound too bad. But it doesn't do what a tube amp does.
FWIW, I listened to Jack Zucker's clip, and it sounds not even remotely close to a Dumble. But that's just me.

Funny but at times it reminded me of clips of the Zendrive or other Dumble
style pedals. But most of the time I thought it sounded great and very
much Dumble-like. There's a certain 'chirp', a certain quality to a few
notes that rings a little odd to my ears, kinda giving it away.

Sounds a bit like Santana on "Abraxas" to me... not to you guys? That would be a Big Muff Pi into a Fender Twin for some songs -- and not a Boogie yet -- something like " Black Magic Woman," although I could be wrong.dogears wrote:http://www.andras-shimon.com/AXE-FX/HAD.mp3

Re: AXE-FX Dumble HRM DIGITAL model MP3 sample clip
When I started playing electric guitar in the late 80s, I didn't really *want* a tube amp. I knew of them (I knew they were outside my price range) but I had never played a tube amp, so I didn't really know the difference. I knew about Marshalls and some Fenders of course, but I had never heard of a Fender Champ, a Dumble or a Trainwreck.
These days, every kid has a POD and with it a taste of what a tube amp does. Once they get the taste, they want the *real thing*! The success of amps like the Epiphone Valve Jr is a direct result of tube amps being rediscovered through digital modellers.
A friend of mine who plays keyboards once talked about a digital model of a Hammond organ that sounded as good as, or even better than a real Hammond. Then he said: "but the fact that I *know* it's not the real thing means it does not feel like the real thing."
The bottom line is - it doesn't matter if a modeller sounds identical to a real tube amp - people always want the *real thing*.
