Dumble ODS 102 build

Post by desertmouth90 »

Here is the Dumble ODS 102 Build I have nearly done (Just grounding and Transfomers yet to finish/Order)

I am contemplating going with 100 watt transformers as I can always switch it down to 50 watts and I think ill be ordering the Dumble style OT and PT from Tube Town as I cannot find anything in the UK to go with it.

I will need to plate over the Cap Can opening as im not utilising this bit - I have no idea how to go about doing this bit.

The PCB was used courtesy of AA Electronics (Fantastic quality boards btw).

I have also made a huge error of not testing the orientation of any of my Orange Drop Caps so I am trying to buy a second hand Oscilliscope from someone on FB Marketplace (Havent gone to pick it up yet)

What Speakers do other people use? I may have more questions too.

Sadly im based in the UK, my mate sent me some cracker barrel pancake mixture to my home in London once and I was hounded by FedEx to pay £37... the mixture was $9.

UK and US trade is not great.

Sorry to hear about the bad trade situation.

Those plugs are fairly common here, I've seen them at electrical supply merchants. Perhaps something similar is available in thr UK.

Why not use Hammond Twin transformers from Mouser? No tax shipping or duty to pay and they normally turn up in 3 days from USA

As for speakers, 150w Swamp Thang in Thiele cab works great or Celestion G12-65s in open back.
Many use EV 12 but I found them good only at gig volumes.

Would you say these are better choices than the Tube Towns? they are more expensive. I have the Hammond 194B choke already.

Sorry I don't know about Tube Town transformers. I've used Hammond Classictone (no longer available) and Mercury (very expensive). I know folks in the USA use Heyboer. Find out who makes their ones and make the decision. Inmadout in Italy are also good.
Bear in mind EU products may be subject to shipping and duties plus handling to UK. With Mouser it's all taken care of.

If your multimeter doesn't read mV, best get another one I think.

Most people measuring voltages in these amps use Fluke. You can run into 750v AC on some transformers. So 1000v DC.. Cat II.
I use a USA Wavetek (ex BT), but do a search on here and see what folks use.

This is a really simple and effective way to find the outer foil of your caps.

Sometimes the difference is subtle, so I prefer using a DMM or scope to get a quantitative measurement.
