Are there D-Lite transformers still available? If not can someone recommend alternatives?

Sincerely,

Yes, they're available. Check out the "For Sale" page, link in there.

If Brownnote doesn't have any, the original D'lite was designed around the Fender Vibrolux Power transformer. For an output, try one of the 18 watt Marshall clone transformers as made by Heyboer and sold by GDS and others. For a 2x6V6 D'lite, shoot for 8K primary to 4,8,16 ohm secondary.
Hope this helps...

Alternative Transformers

Post by sst4270 »

Tubetek,

Thanks for the suggestion (Bob-I as well)

I'm going with a couple of Hammond's... (for economy's sake)

Hammond 1620 for OT (6,600 ohm Pri. 4, ,8, 16 sec)

Hammond Fender Replacement P-TF22798

Should I plan on making any component adjustments for the 1620 since it doesn't have the 8k primary?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

transformer question

Post by alexharvey »

Hello - not trying to hijack thread but I've got almost exactly the same question. I've got a Ceriatone Express Output Tranny I was hoping to use in a D'Lite 44 build. It's got dual dual primaries which I've read can be mounted to a switch to go between tube types. This iron has reb/blue/brown and black/pink wires on primary which I expect is to match EL34 (5.2K tap)or 6V6 (6.6K) tubes on Express build - can anyone confirm this? There are no markings but resistance on DMM seems to match this ratio.
So will this trafo be a good match for 6L6/6V6 tubes in D'lite 44 and will I have to change any components to make up for slight impedance mismatch?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I can't recommend Hammond for the OT soundwise! They're high quality of course, but they don't have any distinctive or interestingly sound character!

Glen Burnie, eh? I grew up in Oxon Hill (PG County) just outside South Capitol Street SE!!!! Small world!
As to the 1620, I'm sure that it will work fine with the stock-value components.
If you already own one, use it and see if you like it. IMO, however, the OT is the most important single component and the last place to compromise to save a few bucks.

Thanks for the replies... I've ordered an 18 Watt OT from MojoTone. I figure I'll try'em both and see which one I like better.
