Tonker Clip

Post by glasman »

Here is a clip I put together today to see how much I like the Eminence Tonker. The speaker is in a small 1x12 cabinet. Amp is my first d-clone from a couple of years ago. This speaker is really different from the EVM's I normally run. The guitar is a Les Paul R7

The clip starts on the bridge pickup and at about 1:30 I switch to the neck and then back to the bridge at about 3:00.

Let me know what you think.

Gary

Sounds good, Gary. Very Santana-like on the neck. The Tonkers sound like they have some nice thick mids and I like the way they break up.

BTW, it's good to hear you play. For the longest time I thought all Dumbles sounded like Scott Lerner. It's comforting to hear someone closer to my touch and style. It lets me know my amp DOES sound about right. ;)

Really nice Gary!

Loved it.

Now send me that backing please. I'll do an HRM clip with my Tonker cab.

I had some Tonkers and I would never have guessed those were Tonkers. I had a GDS ODS100 here and tested a pair of EVM12Ls, Tonkers and Tone Tubbys all in identical cabinets, vertical 2x12s with a vertical oval hole in the back. The clip sounded great and it sounded like the Tone Tubbys I like. Smooth dark rich sexy tone. To my ear testing the Tonkers sounded too hi-fi kind of sterile.

Glasman your amp sounded terrific. :D

Here is a picture of the cab from the back. The amp is one of my MKIIC+.

There was a slight bit of amp reverb at record time. When I mixed it down I added a little extra reverb and delay on the guitar, just to make it sit better in the mix. I think I added a bit too much after listening to it a few times :)

Hey Alex, (thanks for the heads up on this site)

Yeah, I had heard all kinds of different things about the Tonkers but thought I would try a couple (this is only a 1x12) for myself to see how they work. To honest I am pretty happy with the sound. Even my picky youngest son thought they sounded really good.

I will be taking it to the weekly Jam tonight and give it a workout. See how it hangs in a band enviroment. I usually try to get as many others as possible to play the amps/cabs so I can sit and listen and take notes. I hear more when listening than I do playing.

The other Tonker I have is a replacement for a "crying" Wizard that I put in a 20W SOD combo.
