speakers opinions
Hi
I've narrowed down my speakers choice to
a eminence RWB or a Jensen Jet blackbird.
This is due to availability and cost.
I'm planing on mounting in a ported 1x12.
Anyone have direct comparisons of these. I've heard some mp3 of the Jensen but would like to get some feedback on it's overall tone.
Is this a typical Jensen sounding speaker or some sort of hybrid?
In general I'm not a big fan of Celestions apart from a set of blues I have in a Vox AC-30.
I feel I'm chasing an more of an EV SRO sound for my dumble style amp.
I know that with speakers you can go down the changing pickups route.
thanks Nick

If you can afford it try a EVM-12L.nickm57 wrote:Hi

Also Mr. Dogears achieves great results w/ the Celestion g12/65.

Thanks Paul!
I also love my EVM in the Thiele port. I have 2 EVM12Ls and 1 EVM12S. No stranger to EVM! I can say that my 3 Red White and Blues sound nothing at all even remotely similar to the EVM tones.
If you want EVM, get EVM. Don't waste money on any thing else.

Re: speakers opinions
I've got two EVM12L's in Thieles and a G12-65 1X12 that I use with a Scumback heavy magnet 55 1x12. They are all great speakers. I like the EV's a little better with the non-HRM and the British flavor with the HRM. YMMV,

so where would you place a RWB in the scheme of things?
Re: speakers opinions
Well, below EV, IMHO.

Re: speakers opinions
I need to mention the EV is the 200 watter with the plain magnet. There are several versions and a reissue I believe. That isn't to say the others wouldn't work for you. Also, an Altec 417-8C might be worth a listen if you like the cast frame American units.
They are very heavy speakers so don't stick one (or two) in a 100 watt combo unless you have your travel logistics covered.

Re: speakers opinions
FWIW, I tried a few Demo speakers in a ported 1x12 yesterday that the folks at CE sent me.
I tried the Jensen Neo (don't bother, pure mush in the mids) and the Mod 110, which I actually liked quite a bit! It was not an EV sound, nor was it a Celestion sound, but it was quite good, clear and articulate with great string to string definition. the highs were not fizzy, harsh, or biting- All in all I liked it.
I also have an alnico Blackbird, but I haven't tried it yet-

Re: speakers opinions
after trying out many combinations for a EVM 12L in my 2 x12" cabinet,
I was very happy with a Jensen 12 K ! a friend uses in his Deluxe Reverb.
Tubes are matched new Tungsol 5881 .

Re: speakers opinions
As long as the subject is back in play, did anyone ever run an A/B test on an EV and an Eminence Delta Pro? sh
Re: speakers opinions
let us know what you thick of the blackbird.
Re: speakers opinions
Anyone here tried the Celestion G12 Century in a D-type amp?
Re: speakers opinions
I have had mine for a while now, good speaker but it's just not effective as the EVM, and will eventually sell it.nickm57 wrote:so where would you place a RWB in the scheme of things?

Re: speakers opinions
I threw two into my Twin Reverb, which are better than the Red Ruby's that were already in there. I also use them for an HRM 100W head I built. Good, but not as good as my non-HRM 50W w/ G12-65.so where would you place a RWB in the scheme of things?
