I tore this one down a couple of days ago...

I did clean the chassis up with a coarse brillo. Lots of nasty solder blobs, carbon and grease removed. Although the sockets looked to be fine, I can't help but think it was better to change them.

I think I will also replace the boards with my own. I'm currently tweaking my designs to better fit the project. Faceplate too... I am dropping the R/J switch from what I had installed on my 1st go round. It sounded more like a torture device with the Marshall style pre. Nothing but Rock mode for that channel. At the same time, I may implement the Bright, Deep and Mid Boost switches for the clean channel. After playing with the 1st for a while, these seem like logical changes.

nice, maybe to paint the chassis at this stage with the zinc spray?

I just finished this build for a customer.
The Bright, Mid and Deep sound nice on the clean channel. I also used the LNFB on the first input stage to keep it cleaner.

Thanks,
Aaron

Replacement board for keeper is staked. This amp is the HG side of UP with several adapted mods and an added OD section.

Wish me luck. The last bit has only worked on paper.

I am having some trouble deciding on fixed NFB values. I play mostly right at the knee of collapsing the NFB, but slightly lower than that is nice but maybe a little bright. At least it isn't too dark. That would suck!

You can't get it back if it never was.

I might go back to 10k and split the pot value to around 3k w/.1u as an early Marshall in 7 range of pot rotation.

Sometimes thinking it for hours doesn't help but writing it out makes immediate sense. I just realized simply moderating the pres control until the transition is near meaningless then measuring is the answer. Dhur..

Been following these builds and they look great! Thought of you guys when I heard this on Instagram today. This guy has several Dumbles and is a fantastic player. This clip is from a marshall plexi modded by HAD.

I would think so and maybe HRM too. That stack of amps is nuts. Transition generation on top, 5th gen (being played), and overdrive reverb on bottom.

My HGUP amp is up for iteration 3.

I need to prep the other chassis and mount all the new pots. One jumper on the board.

Dual gain controls plus OD section. The test amp is a MONSTER.
