Bluesmaster Layout

Post by talbany »

Onward and upward.. Here is a layout of a Bluesmaster HRM...
Since this particular amp was still gooped some of the info I needed to keep this accurate such as types of the parts used in some areas is just not possible at this time..So this is a sort of collage of info taken through various sources but should make for a good starting point..
This is revision 1
Special thanks to Scott, mdroberts1234, who originally started the layout and Ultra Hooked who I copped the PS and HRM boards from(he does awesome work) and all those kind enough to PM me info they had.. It's all good..Enjoy

BTW.. If you use a loop on this amp you may want to raise the master bright to 68pf.. thought I'd mention.. Also this has the Mega-boost like in the original.. If you want a more subtle boost lift the bottom of the mid pot 68K instead of straight to ground..

Tony

Hi Tony,

1. The Cathode wires on V2 looks like they have been reversed on the layoyt

2. The V1b capacitor, are we really sure about 20n (0.02uF) and not 10n.

3. The V2a capacitor could be marked as optional

a) 1n being the general preference,
- with OD trim around 40k to ground,
- HRM: bass 70k, mid 6,5-10k, treble 45%

b) 2n is dogears preference .
- with OD trim below 20k,
- HRM: bass 70k, mid 4k - 4.4k, treble 45%

Maybe, bullet 3 does not comply with people' observations inside in real dumbles, but IMO it makes sense according to the research done by forumites.

The same goes for usin a 250k bass pot, a 25k middle pot and a 250k bass HRM board trimmer, which makes life a lot easier with these amps.

- 250k bass pot 'allows' you to have the pot a 12 'oclock.
- same applies for a 25 k middle pot.

And a 250K Bass HRM pot makes it much easier to find the 60-75k sweet spot.

Blues, which way is the HRM treble pot set 45%?

That is to say at 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock?

Thanks.
Yours Sincerely

About 11 O'clock.

The most important tool is off course your ears, but in relation to hrm trimmers you need to use your ohm meter as well.

I saw your post about modding a Boogie SOB, and you're on the right track.... you need to perform proper adjustment of the HRM trimmers.

Also you OD trimmer should be set between 20k and 40k (measured from od trimmers center pin to ground - with the amp on and in OD mode). My trimmer is at 24k - I am going for a Robben F 'not over the top' setting - and infact I might take it down to 20k.

Blues, I have now set the all the trimmers with an ohm meter to the values listed in this thread.

I had the drive trimmer initially set at 28K (by ear) as I found too much signal didn't so much give me more gain as bad tone. I might return it from 20K to 28K as I didn't have to push the first volume control as much.

I'll keep listening and adjusting, I'm find the best tones are from my PRS with the hot rear pickup, My Les Paul doesn't sound so good through this amp yet it sounds beautiful through my 18 watter.

The Strat sounds beautiful through the clean channel, but too bright through the overdrive channel.

Not a lot of gain from this clip.

Reverb helps, but the basic tone is evident.

More of the same, but not a lot of gain from the amp.

I can't but help think the overdrive needs extra stages to support the HRM.

All food for thought.

Here is a link to the diagram.

I will post details of my build on this thread for a bit more clarification over what to expect from the Bluesmaster build.

Thanks for the layout Tony, I appreciate your generousity.

The BM lifts the mid pot from ground.

Sorry I haven't built one (yet) but here is another schematic that may clear up that question.
