Having just followed this layout, there is an error on the first two radial electrolytic caps, the polarity is the wrong way round. Exploding electrolytics aren't what you want at the end of a build :)

Building to the attached layout works fine and seems to be similar to what was originally posted here. So, I'm not so sure there is a layout error.

wish I'd seen that one first :D

check the very first post in this thread, first picture.

I always expect the original head of a thread to be the one with the most up to date layout.

Never really understood why using a xformer with too little secondary voltage, anayway. Alternatively use two small cheap print xformers with the two secondary sides connected.

I use a 230v (in EU that is) primary with 12 volt secondary => into a 6 volt secondary of the 2nd xformer and get (almost) the double voltage on the primary, like 300volt. Besides feeding the 2nd transformer, the 12 volt ac secondary of the first transformer is used as heater voltage for the 12ax7.
