Glaswerks SOD 50 Pictures

Post by les_guitar »

Thanks to Gary's generosity, I have been able to post some pictures of the amp that he is building for me. Mine is a 50 watt SOD, with a 1 12 cabinet in blond tolex. It should be shipped to me very soon!

Special thanks to Gary for his passion, hard work and dedication in building these amps. If it sounds as good as it looks (and I am sure it will), then this amp is totally off the hook!

Also, hats off to Scott for all of his passion and "ears" in this project. Scott - you da man and I very much appreciate your contribution to this tonal adventure.

Enjoy!

Gary,
EXCELLENT craftsmanship. You should be very proud. I like Dogears clips through your amp too, great tone. Have you noticed a distinct difference in using HADs oval port cutout?

Hi Bob, wow can't believe I misses this question.

Yes, I think the oval port adds a little punch to the bottom end of the cabinet while maintaining some of the sound stage of an open back cabinet.

I use a similar arrangement on the 4x12 cabinets I built for my two sons. They have two oval ports behind the speakers and sound more open that say a Marshall 4x12 of the same dimensions.

Thanks for the kind comments on the workmanship.

Glasman,

6L6s or EL-34s? For that matter, which output tubes for most of Scott's clips where he was demoing HRM vs. non-HRM?

The amps will run either 6L6s or EL34s. Scott uses 6L6's in his amps. I don't think he has tried 34s for any length of time. I think they are a little soft for his taste in sound.
