New build ultimate dumble-based amp (1)

Post by fjonkman »

Last month I finished my new amp based on a lot of research on Dumble amps and especially this wonderful forum. I used several parts of my first build (based on ideas from the AX84 site) as trafos and tubes. My objective was to build the ultimate amp for me and document it a lot better then I was used to. After a few weeks testing and tweaking everything works fine now so it’s ready for reproduction.
My objectives were:
• Build on a real point-to-point base to achieve maximum flexibility.
• 40 watts output.
• An integrated dumble-ator.
• An integrated reverb based on one tube.
• An integrated tremolo based on one tube.
• A 3-way footswitch for PAB, OD and mid-boost.
• Easy operating without footswitch (it means also switches on the front-panel).
Because this forum was a great help I want to share my documentation in the following attachments.
In another second topic a will attach some photographs.

WOW - this is very nice work. :!:

Can you record and post some audio clips?

I was planning to build a TW Express tribute, but this makes me give it a second thought.

The Express would be very cool to build and play - but I think I'd get a lot more use out of this design (after the build).

Very, very nice.

Cap Values on this scheme

Post by Goldhedge »

fjonkman's schematic has me questioning the values.

Everywhere else I see the caps are in uFs and here they are in nanoFarads.

Is this a convention of the Netherlands to use nF instead of uF?

Checking my conversion math, if there is a 50nF cap and I want it in uF, I multiply by 0.001 to get a 0.05uF cap. Correct?

Thanks

Damn I never saw this either. The OP must have had a lot of free time to come up with this. Super ambitious and super cool!

To answer the question above:

1nF = 0.001uF
10nF = 0.01uF
100nF = 0.1uF
etc..

The Europeans tend to like using the nano prefix.

It used to be used here more but for the last 20 years or so seems to be fading in favor of decimal points and the uF nomenclature.
