Super Reverb Conversion

Post by heisthl »

I had this crappy 70 watt silver faced master volume Super Reverb and decided to make it HRM. I replaced the transformers with Bassman Iron and had a guy cut it down to half size. It will have a 12 and a 10. Should have finished pics by middle of next week. Schematic and layout are close to what will get built with some minor changes.

Chassis and foot pedal pix - the little toggle on the foot pedal is a one way link for the OD switch to turn on the PAB.

More Pixs - the 3 LEDs and the toggle by the jack are for the built in tuner. The switch connects the jack to the tuner and mutes the amp one way and enables the tuner's mic the other way in the play position.

On this project I tried to use the original chassis holes wherever possible. The only new holes required were the 2 test points for bias and the 2 thru the chassis bias pots. The hole for the footswitch had to be enlarged for the MIDI jack.

Have you got any comments on the RWB and Legend combo?

The combination sounds really good but I think there is room for improvement. I'm sold on the legend 10 especially for stand alone applications - it has more clean low end and takes a lot before it breaks up, much better than the Rajun Cajun or Celstion Special Design 65 watter. I have 2 K 1-110s but both have an annoying high rattle when pushed. I will eventually recone one to see if it's a characteristic of that speaker. I have a JBL G series 12 that sounds better than the RWB but I had to lend it to someone else to use in their non-HRM after they heard it! In a single 12 configuration I challenge anyone to come up with a smoother loud and clean speaker than the G.
The ideal using new off the shelf speakers may be a G12-65 with the Legend 10 but I'm not sure if it will fit in the tight quarterrs between the pwr and OT on this amp.

I was hoping that you'd keep that G125 secret to yourself. It's been my go-to speaker for a while now- about 15 years!!

If you see h2h2 bidding against you on ebay send me a PM and we'll negotiate who gets the next one :o
Seriously, the're OK for personal use but since you casn't get new ones it's not right to use one in a build for someone else.

Have you ever had one reconed? Please share your experience. I have a dead one, but the JBL cones are ~$200, yes?
