Re: Steel String Singer Layouts/Schematics

Post by Aaron »

Here’s layout I did for SSS #001 and SSS #002.
I haven’t built from the layouts but I think Sergio did a #002 build.

I’m out on tour at the moment but also have layouts for #004 and #005 back at home.

Here is a Mheartman layout of what looks to be #004

Okay so I've just decided to update the first post, and link to all these layouts being shown. I don't think I'll need to create one for 002 since it looks like we've got one. Thanks Aaron!

Keep the submissions coming of layouts or schematics and pics of the real deal or clones and we can update the thread.

I am starting to make SSS #002 board layouts here using DIYLayout Creator. https://github.com/colganr/steel-string ... er/Circuit Once the boards are completed, I'll make the overall drawing to share with everyone. Feel free to download/modify/re-upload and I'll combine the changes back in the "master" repository above. I'm mostly using Aaron's layout for the inspiration and cross referenced with the hand-drawn and .sch #7 revision schematics. I'm going back and forth about the power supply approach for this one. I might just do the offboard Twin Reverb rectifier/bias instead of including it on the PS board to avoid noise from the rectifiers bleeding in. I'm waiting on parts to come in so I can verify my layout size to accommodate F&T caps.

The SSS #002 chassis I had fabricated are already set so if you modify the board layouts, please leave the 9pins in the exact position so they line up to the chassis holes. This is exciting stuff!

I am throwing my hat in the ring for a SSS #002 layout with some minor corrections/tweaks based on the available documentation (hand drawn schematic, rev 7.sch file, SSS #004 via Two Rock Sterling Sig) as well as Sergio's build. Layout heavily inspired by Aaron's layout.

NOTES
  • V1B LNFB wiring is following the hand drawn schematic
  • High filter cap changed from .003uF to .002uF like SSS #004
  • Bias adjusted to utilize 60v tap on PT
  • v4a to reverb return cap changed from .003 to .002s per SSS #004
  • FET resistor divider changed from 220k/8.2k to 150k/9.1k for higher FET output (per Sergio's findings)
  • Presence added with 2K trim pot. Resistor change from 270R to 390R to accomodate presence
  • 6.3v Heater wires to preamp tubes not drawn

Layout made with DIYLC and my latest changes can be downloaded here (Right click "save-as") https://raw.githubusercontent.com/colga ... Layout.diy

EDIT: Updated with bias and FET changes.
EDIT 6/4/19: Fixed driver board from 820k to 820ohm
Edit 6/14/19: Removed attachments to encourage downloading the latest layout from the GitHub link above.

I'm looking for a peer review of my layout and any feedback as I'll be building this soon :D Thank you in advance!

Oh no!! That's not good... Attaching a JPG

EDIT 5/23/19 (updated JPG to reflect bias changes & FET)
EDIT 6/4/19 Fixed 820 ohm resistor value (was 820k by accident)
EDIT 6/14/19 Removed attachment to encourage downloading the real-time latest https://github.com/colganr/steel-string ... and%20PDFs

Take a close look at that bias supply.

Ah yes. Just realized the classictone PT accommodates a 60v tap too. I see the cap is backwards as well Adjusting...

EDIT: adjusted and re-uploaded layout to previous post

Can you post the schematic that you are using to make this layout?

The signal entrance at the Fet board has to be on the other end of the 100pF-1M combination.

I believe slucky's comment was referring to the cap polarity; the bias supply from the HT was correct per the schematic.
