Hybrid Rev-A parts list with mouser codes

Post by Mastervolume »

I thought that as long as I was doing this for me I should share. Excel speadsheet with mouser part #s, costs and quantity for the Hybrid -A amp.

Please let me know if you would have chosen different parts or anything else that I have omitted.

should there be sparks?

I think this is a great thing. With a little more work, it will be very useful.

I just went over it. Looks like you tried to list all the alternate values on the Hybrid A schematic. I hope we're looking at the same one.

Missing:
1 - 100K Audio pot, should be 2 (OD DRIVE, OD LEVEL)
1 - 350pf (OD1 plate to cathode)
2 - 5K1 resistors (alt. values in phase inverter)
7 - diodes. We're gonna need these :)

Needs recount (I'm getting blurry)
- 100K 1/2 watt resistors
- some of the small cap counts
- 1/4" jacks, should be 4x #12a, 2x #11

It's pretty close.

Time for me to order some parts.

Some of these aren't the preferred parts, maybe somebody else will comment on that ... but it looks close enough to get me started.

This is a good start,I would add the VD RN65 type plate resistors for V1 and V2. Not sure about the trim pot choices - the spacings might be too close for eyelets.

The D'Lite shares a lot of the same components with the Hybrid-a so maybe this will give you a head start.

General consensus is Vishay Dale plate resistors, ceramic caps (not mica), and Sprague 6PS orange drops (not Mallory 150's). I also like the Xicon 1 watt carbon film resistors, although we've had good luck with the 2 watt Kiwame's as well. Between the two lists, you should be pretty close.

Normster - are you in favor of the 1 Watt Xicons in place of all the 1/2W parts, or just where 1W is called out on the schematic?

My two D'Lite kits should be arriving pretty soon (I hope!), that's a lot easier than trying to come up with a good order from DigiKey...

Normster -

Line 34 of the D'Lite BOM shows 2 1.5K resistors. Are these actually used? If so, where?

Ditto the 4.7K on line 39. (Is it an alternate to the 6.2K for the presence?)

I use 1watt Xicons for just about everything. It just makes ordering a little easier.

I've been all over the map with power tube grid resistors. I used 1.5K for awhile and have also tried 1.8K, 3.3K, and 5.1K. Sometimes it just depends on what I have in my parts bin.

The 4.7K was the original value for the feedback resistor but I've used 6.2K and 8k as well (with my preference being 6.2k).

I saw the Diode thing too. I updated the sheet so my order will reflect a couple of types

Diodes

FR307 583-FR307G 8 @0.82 total 6.56 3 amp FREDS like Randall Aiken uses

1N4007 75-515D350V47 10 @0.136 total 1.36 really need 7, but price break at 10

Are those FRED's superior to:
UF4007CT-ND

I found my bom from my D'Lite kit. I will update the file here soon.....really

I can't believe I missed diodes......

I am also doing this for the HRM-bluesmaster
should there be sparks?

Good point, the Fairchild's seem to be a favorite of many folks, and they
are cheaper, even allowing that you may want to use more of them.
They are faster, if it makes a difference. The others do have a 3 amp
rating, which may make you feel good if you are a belt and suspenders type of guy.

Looks to me like somebody should figure out why FREDs are good, figure out the current and voltage requirements, choose the best part.

In other words, engineering.

I am not going to get into the FRED good/bad argument.
Although, if Randall Aiken uses something there is always good engineering behind it IMHO.

In general I would opt to overdesign on a part like this for personal use.
It cost pennies more. If I were making 10000 pieces for commercial purposes, then I would do an in depth cost benefit analysis

Thanks for the spreadsheet! Great idea!

BTW I use the RGP 30M diode and the sound difference between those and in4007's is very big. Just my two cents...
