What kind of transformer do you use? Is 368V for first stage and 256 for second stage?

And; It looks like you're using both conductors and not the shield. Isn't the shield grounded?

that's heat shrink, the shield is grounded.

the transformer I had made, it's 135-135 no ct.

Hey Funk,
Isn't the 11pF/ft only between the two conductors? If you eliminate the one conductor you are dealing with the capacitance between the remaining conductor and the shield which appears to 21pF/ft. Please correct me if I'm wrong as I would love a source for some 11pF/ft cable. I can't seem to find anything lower than about 18pF/ ft, but I'm looking in Teflon wire.

11 pf/ft is correct, by my test equipment anyway. It is only 21 pf/ft if you hook the conductor you are not using to the ground drain.

My capacitance meter reads just under 11pf from one end of 1ft of cable connected to the black lead and the other end of the meter connected to the ground drain at the other end of the cable.


Use whatever cable you like, really.

RG-180 is about 15pf/ft but it's also $1.80/ft in teflon dielectric.

I posted the answer much earlier in the thread, the addl pot is a return level control.

Obviously they had more than 2, the one in the blue chassis is a real Dumbleator. Some had the extra pot on the back pannel.

THe lower unit in the pic is an Umble Preamp.

By the looks of it, the jacks on the real D-lator uses two mono Switchcraft 11's and two Switchcraft 12A's. Am I seeing things?

Funk, is the 3rd pot that replaces the 220K to ground after the return jack a 250K pot or something else?
