Dlite 44 tweeks ?

Here is a tweaked layout that incorporates a lot of tweaks from this forum.
Be aware that the power supply is wired incorrectly in this layout, a correction is shown below.

What's up with the 500K master pot??

Also, why not use the unused PAB relay side to correctly break the bass pot input from wiper. The way Dumble did it. I am hugely against the so called bass mod of leaving those lugs disconnected. It is really wrong.

Try a 330ohm resistor instead of choke too. 500ohm is a bit large.

Well Scott, I just posted what was available to me.
I know for the Dumble purists the D'Lite is not up to snuff but maybe that is why it is called the D'Lite.
It originally started as a 6V6 amp, so to evolve it to a 6L6 amp some changes have to be made.
I have most of these tweeks in my amp and I have to say, I'm pretty happy with the results.

I have a D'lite too.... Nothing wrong with the product. My main beef is the bass mod. If incorporated, at least put it on a switch, so one can get the two EQ voices. It is just that breaking the bass pot jumper really mucks the stack operation, without PAB on. I have played many many D'lites and always preferred the switch in normal Dumble stack mode. (The ones I played had it switchable) Also, on the 44, try a 330 ohm resistor. There is more current draw and the amp may get more dynamic by swapping it. On the 22, the 500 ohm is fine.

Just out of curiosity what is your maximum bias voltage?

I have been working on a D'Lite and the maximum bias voltage is -53vdc.

Is this normal as it seems a little shy to me, I am acustom to -60vdc.

It is a very nice sounding amp. I can't imagine how a Dumble could sound better?

Not sure what my voltage is since I measure the bias off of the bias test jacks on the back which go to the 1 ohm resistors on the cathodes.
I use 6L6's and usually set them for around 32-34ma.

If you're using the values in the picture (470R/10k pot/10k tail) raise the tail resistor to 15k or even higher - you could easily go as high as 47k. If your using the more traditional values (1k5/10k pot/15k tail) drop the 1k5 to 1K or even lower.

I put dual bias pots in my D44 build.
Used two Fender style slotted head 25K pots with lock nuts and two 15K tail resistors to keep the same overall load.
Works slick.

Thanks for the advice regarding the bias voltages.

I did try raising the 10K to a higher value, but to no avail. I end up deriving the bias from the secondary of the main transformer. I found this gave me the -60VDC TO -30VDC that I am looking for to cover the bias requirements of 6L6's to 6V6's.

One thing I continually read is the D'Lite bass mod. What is it and what are the pro's and cons of this mod?
