Mark,

I am building a Dumble into a Hammond 19" 4U rack at the moment. Mouser stocks them. They are black wrinkle powder coated and quite nice. They come in the standard 19" width with different depths, depending on the requirements for your application. They aren't cheap these days, but nice. I can send you a photo and a part number later privately, if you need it.

unless you need a suspended rack then just make a box as tall and as deep as you need..19 inches wide and screw rack strip to the sides. I've made loads of these racks and they're easier than building an amp cabinet.

just make sure your rack strip is evenly spaced on both sides. add cage nuts where you need them.

Would love to see your project Colossal.

Guys I will give it a whirl and make sure I don't make it too tight or too loose across that 19" opening.

In a world of small server installations coming and going, you can usually find six- or seven-foot rail-and-duckfoot racks on craigslist cheaply. I've bought three of these, never for more than $25 for the full rack setup. The rails are aluminum C-channel pre-tapped on rack-unit spaces. If you need only a couple of feet, or whatever, hacksaws and files make for cheap rail procurement. They are ...sturdy... too.

I bought the rails and now to make a couple studio racks one probably shallower then the other rack.

I also have been thinking about building an amp within a rack enclosure for a long time now.

Recently I saw Doug Hoffman's Revibe http://el34world.com/projects/ReVibeRack1.htm which shows good ideas, does it seem.
