Anybody here knows ULTRON tubes (6L6)?

Post by VolkerStaub »

Hey there,

does anyone here know a tube brand called Ultron? Apparently German.
From what I gather they seem to be buying bulks of tubes and relabeling and reselling them?
Attached is a batch of 6L6 I'm looking at.
Anybody recognizes them? Any good or are they a pass?

…years ago… every listing and site that pops up in a search is for “NOS” …not a modern distributor

Edit:

At least that what I can find…but those date codes on those boxes might beg to differ…not to mention they look clean and new production …I don’t know …i hope I am wrong . Interesting

Edit:

Food for thought:

With all that glass coming up out of the base around the internal leads and those top rectangular side supports on the mica insulators I can say for sure they are Russain made.

These tubes tend to arc over easy and sound pretty harsh when driven hard.

It's a dead giveaway! Russian, for sure.

I am using exactly those ULTRON tubes from Buerklin in my SF Bassman 50 and so far so good. No arcs and no harshness yet.
Definitely russian tubes :

Your Bassman runs with a plate voltage of no more then 440 volts and I would suggest to you to never try to run those tubes anywhere over 460 no less the 500 volts that a 6L6GC is spec'ed out to handle.

BTDT!

Out of curiosity I dug out my stock of these.

I have 3 and 2 or them are labeled for a different company and made atleast according to its printing being made in different countries.

One is a Sovtec and labeled as being made in Russia.

One is a Westinghouse labeled as being made in Japan.

The last one is Raytheon and labeled made in England.
Go figure!

Also all of these tubes are at least 23 years old.
