just a quick update.
The Amp Rocks! The Tokai LS160 Goldtop P90 and amp are a perfect combo.
It is still going strong - just a temperamental hum on the reverb for me to resolve but this was an old issue from years ago as well.
A couple of clips of it at a reunion:
Au naturel with just a bit of delay - this is the only bit of moving footage I synced.:

Clean as above but with a tube screamer thrown in for the solo at the end with no drive; just level whacked up to boost into the amp. Static pics from the event.

Again, SOOO much thanks to Miles, Martin et all for the help.
Barks out. xzzz

Three years and still going! Solid work!
Re: Traynor YGM-3 (early) - Selmer cab
Great sounding band and guitar. You guys know how to work the groove!

Happy New Year Folks!
An update.
The fizz was still bugging me and I got to the point where I felt I needed to find a good old tech.
I brought to a guy in Leeds called Mac amps and he traced the fault as inherent in the reverb recovery part of the circuit.
There was some distortion there before it even hit the main outputs.
Even with the reverb off the distortion was getting in there. A resistor that was supposed to be 10k was now measuring 100K.
Either way, its been fettled and rebiased- slight mismatch in the PI - slightly lower.
Fizz almost non existent and it sounds great!

Re: Traynor YGM-3 (early) - Selmer cab
Great, and good to hear we didn't miss something too obvious. I assume your tech was able to scope the signal path to locate the problem area. Not too surprised that a resistor drifted... Was it a dark brown carbon composition part? Checking all of them is something that can be done as a matter of routine when restoring an old amp. Brute force, but leaves no doubts. Play on!
Re: Traynor YGM-3 (early) - Selmer cab
Yes he scoped it out. Also said my transformer install and bias and testing point where top notch, so many thanks for that!
He also was NOT impressed with the PI mod I got from the Parkhead mods. He said it messed up the biasing and actually pushed what were matched valves out of whack. Also another interesting observation was the original output transformer is not that great and slightly unbalanced. Not a biggie but at idle the amp is a little unhappy but when producing signal it measures better if that makes sense. He has some of these original Hammond transformers so could replace in the future.
It's been a trip!

He's made a new measured scheme for the amp - all voltages etc - and has written observations and set bias currents etc.. I'll post his comments.
Re: Traynor YGM-3 (early) - Selmer cab
Written observations.
The text I've printed that he's commented on came from a forum site.

Well, you did the work, so give yourself a pat on the back too. Really it’s nice to see that you’re keeping it going, and thanks for the update. A new set of output valves might be something to consider in future.
Re: Traynor YGM-3 (early) - Selmer cab
Thanks!
Sorry, should have mentioned a new set of OP valves installed.

Nothing like an old tech who's being doing this for 30 plus years!
Those were his diagnostic notes...and he's Scottish so imagine "Rubbish" and "Pish" said in that brogue...
