Nah I don't pay him much but he is under the illusion that an owner doesn't need an income. Besides he is the company "visionary"... what more could he want from life?

100uf

Post by angelodp »

Hi rj, just wondering if the 100uf will be ok with a 25v rating as opposed to the 50v shown? Also as in the other eagle thread the 10uf has to orient with the cap opposite to all the other E caps so that it does hit ground correctly.

Ok... did you prefer the elevated heater circuit or CT to ground?

Also curious as to which grounding scheme you settled on, there are numerous methods displayed.

Also- the Screen grid resistor. Is that set up correctly or should the wire from the 100uf hit pin 6 not pin 4.

Liftoff

Post by angelodp »

Ok, I did get this going and its a fine SE amp. Real nice tones. I went for the lower, 240v primary for now w/ 6V6. The bypass is cool and the tone-stack is also very usable and has a good range. My Strat likes it. Next LP and maybe the higher tap ( 300v ) .
I did not elevate the heaters and its nice and quiet.

I am thinking of putting the 600v/480v switch on the front as a

600v/standby/480 v selector ?

Thanks rj for this fine project.... Marco will be firing it up later today.

Ange,

You can elevate the heaters to power tube cathode voltage with the addition of one wire. Your amp looks great! Bet your nephew will dig it.

Elevate

Post by angelodp »

Thanks, grandson actually. Cool Kid. if the amp is pretty quiet, is there any reason to elevate the heaters?

He's got a cool grandpa if you're building amps for him! As for DC elevating the heaters, if the amp is really quiet, no, there's no real reason to do it other than you can and it's easy. I'm the kind of guy that does stuff like that...complicates things unnecessarily

4x12

Post by angelodp »

Just had this amp through a 4x12 and its stupid good.... No great...really. Cinnamon Girl was wowza. As you said rj, the bypass has the main stage as the tone-stack does leave a little bit behind, but not much. Looking forward to Zippy and Surf on their builds.

Spotted some 2nd's Brich drawers that might make a great cab at the lumber yard near me.?!

Which way did you go with the tone stack, Ange? 1M/250k/22k or 250K/1M/22K?

Soon. I loaded both boards (stock and Supre Tweed) this afternoon. Adjustable NFB on the "stock" setup. I also found a way to give the cathode resistor/bypass cap some breathing space. I'll see about getting pictures up sometime.

Cheers!

Hi Z, I went V-1M T-1M B-250 . Curious to see what you did with the NFB.

Hey guys, great to see these amps coming together. I have been watching the progress from just south of the equator where the weather is great as long as you like hot and wet... By the way Zippy I have some coffee for you. Didn't have any time to post or build but enjoyed the traffic on the thread.

You guys are doing great on tweaking these things in... I haven't swapped out the Bass pot in mine yet but I was going to go with the 250K in that hole and see how I liked it. Sounds like it worked well for Ange.

Ange do you have way to make up sound clips? I would be curious to hear the amp. Sounds like the final formula for noise minimization worked well. I learned a bit on that effort.

Keep up the progress reports, looking forward to these next few build reports then curious if anyone has thoughts about how this could morph into the ?? I was thinking maybe reverb but it might smartest to build an effects loop and try a few different things.

great work, keep up the reports.

Ola

Post by angelodp »

Hey rj, yes it sure does get hot and wet down south there. BTW I went to the earlier grounding scheme with the caps to the left side of the board grounded there at the bottom left corner and still very quiet. I did that to clear some space for the 480, stndby/600 switch. I will try to do some clips.

Loop or verb would be cool. How about another 12ax7 in parallel.

Be well

Ange :)

The Tweed Supre is #2 for me. After that... How 'bout a Rocket pre' with the first stage paralleled (switchable boost)?

Zippy - I assume you are saying you'll use the "Tweed" tone stack for your Supre #2?

I know that extra spot for a preamp tube would really give us some options on this platform, it's just a matter of choosing between gain or effects.
