Parallel-Series-Stereo Jack Plate $15

Post by doveman »

I've picked up a new jack plate for my 2x12 cabinet that looks like this ... $15

[IMG:639:478]http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m168 ... CN1087.jpg[/img]

You can have ... with my two 8-ohm speakers ...
  • 4-ohm parallel (both speakers)
  • 16-ohm series (both speakers)
  • 8-ohm stereo (each speaker can be used alone ... both plugs input ... use the ones you want ... maybe just one)
Accomplishes all of this with this patch board ... 4 output cables to the speakers.

Kinda cool ... huh? Going to install in my 2x12 this weekend.

That's pretty cool, where did you get it from?

click on JACK/PLUGS ... then JACK PLATES ... then S-H700

Note: You can see the wiring diagrams too. One thing I worried a bit about was that they showed stereo jacks in the pictures. But from what I can tell the regular jacks will work ... see the wiring diagrams. Ring and Sleeve are always connected.

I think Marshall used something similar on some cabs.

Can you tell what type and quality the jacks are?

No marks on them that I can see but they are black plastic on the external casings. Seem pretty strong since they are locked into the board on one end and the plate on the other. I'll report if they break down. That same vendor that I linked has the Marshall version I think. You can look in the same area on the site.

Well I installed it ... looks like this ...

[IMG:639:478]http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m168 ... CN1092.jpg[/img]

Remembering that speakers DC resistance shows up a little less than the ohm load specified ... these are the results:

[IMG:639:478]http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m168 ... CN1093.jpg[/img]

[IMG:639:478]http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m168 ... CN1094.jpg[/img]

[IMG:639:478]http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m168 ... CN1095.jpg[/img]

[IMG:639:478]http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m168 ... CN1096.jpg[/img]

Note: You can use the RIGHT ONLY with one cable BUT the LEFT ONLY needs to have BOTH cables plugged in to work ELSE 4-OHM. You would just leave the right cable unplugged if using only the LEFT speaker.

Sounds good ... very flexible.

Plate is metal ...

Cab is from http://www.stagecraftgear.com/servlet/t ... %93/Detail who built my stock Brown Note 1x12 and head cab. I worked out getting the exact grille cloth from the same place that I bought this jack assembly ... so it would match. Turned out real nice and they had a special going around Christmas for $199. I've got a thread here somewhere about it ... currently loaded with a Scumback M75-LHDC and a Celestion G1265 Reissue.

Here it is with my Brown Note head and 1x12 ...

I think these guys build nice cabs. :)

Looks nice Ken, that is a good price for that cab.

Man, Anthony Bonadio sure has his fingers in a lot of cab companies.

He has Reason Amps, Gabkits (I think), Stagecraft and I think there are a couple others.
Reason (Anthony) built my head cab for my D'lite.

Yeah ... I like it ... made by the same guys ... same quality ... better price though. But I could not just buy it stock without working out the grille cloth source. But the cabs are made on the same equipment ... Brown Note doesn't have a 2x12 with that top piece. I think it looks nice too.

These cabs have a thinner speaker baffle which is nice with the lighter speakers (Scumback, Celestion). If I was going to put two EVM12Ls in this cab I would ask for all 8 speaker screws in each speaker and a thicker baffle ... just in case the cab was dropped. Those heavy speakers would be a bit much for the baffle if the cab was dropped.

Only reason I mention it is that I have two EVM12Ls myself and I know you have two of them, as well.

I did my 2 x 12 this way. Same type set-up. The PCB does the wiring on yours, and it's probably cheaper than mine. Thanks for sharing :!:

I never thought of the problem with only four screws on the speaker to baffle plate.
Hmmm, I agree they are monster speakers and although I currently don't gig that is a good idea to use all the holes on the speaker mounting.

If running in stereo, do I use normal speaker cables to connect the heads or something different?

Nice idea !!

I would use rean type of jacks as the switchcraft switches are unreliable,
you don't want to have an open circuit here and the Rean do have a better
contact.
