Chassis purchase

Post by C Moore »

I have been wanting to build a Fender 5E5A. My only real hold up is the chassis. I have never had to buy a chassis before. I need one that is all drilled and punched.
Mojo has them for $60.00 plus shipping. Nik (Ceriatone) has them for 50, but that will obviously be more for shipping. Do any of you guys build/supply chassis' that are all set up, or should I just get one from Mojo..?
I do not care if it is period correct, just need it to accommodate the 5E5 circuit.
Thank You

Get onto RJ - rjguitars.net - his chassis are well made, and he should have one available with 3 novals, and 3 octals as a 5E5 would use.

I've used the project chassis from Allen Amplification and have been very satisfied with it. Heavy duty construction and predrilled. Reasonable prices for Fender style angled front chassis. http://allenamps.com/minichassis.php

I always forget about Allen, when it comes to parts.

Have you ever played a Pro?

I have thought about that amp before as well.

Are you going to leave the input configuration stock or cascade the first two stages?

I see Weber wants $90 for theirs.

They have chrome or glossy chocolate.

Hey Structo -
I did not realize what a crazy schematic (for a Fender in my experience) this was. Did Fender use a cat follow very often..? I was just going to build it per the original schem. Are you talking about trying to get more gain out of the amp..?
You are right about the Weber chassis. It will be 30 dollars cheaper if I get one from Mojo. I wish I could see a Ceriatone chassis for comparison. Like I said, "period correct" does not matter to me. I read a lot of negative stuff about Nik's products (especially on the gear page) I would really like to see his chassis next to a Mojo.
Thank You

Here's one DIYers take on the circuit ( its a 5E7 Bandmaster, but that's the same circuit as the 5E5A Pro ) with the stages cascaded : http://www.kilback.net/homebrewtweaks/a ... m#tweed5e7

I think I made a mistake. I was planning on using the tranny set from this old Ampeg. But the Fender specs a 5U4, and those things want 3 amps for the heaters. Not sure if the Ampeg PT will put up with that. I guess if the plate voltage is acceptable, couldn't I use any rectifier I want..?
Thanks

Hey thanks, that looks like a great amp.
My next will be a grab and go combo so Tweed plus some overdrive sounds appetizing. :D
