I haven't got a proper rig for box joints, so I make do with braced butt joints that have dowel pegs for extra strengthening. I really love making combo cabs.

those are real beauts - I have to find some nice wood and try my hand at that. So far all of mine have been covered, but it's high time to step out

I really wished I had invested more time in woodworking.

I have a few decent tools but finding the space to set it all up is my problem.

We have a double car garage but I would have to put everything away at night because there is no way in hell we leave our cars out at night.

I sure admire your guys work, beautiful wood!

wood cabs

Post by husky »

These were real sweet, we made them out of Ash with a matching guitar, also did a Korina Set John Shanks wound up with (matching T style guitar)
A total bitch to paint though since we had to pick the cabinets up to buff them.
I'm actually drawing up the new Jim Kelley hardwood cabs right now in Solidworks. fun stuff !

That is a cool combo John.

I love wood cabs, although not great for gigging they sure do look nice at home.

Was it Satellite Amps that made a red sparkle amp?
Not sure if it was paint or tolex now.

I've shown this one before.
I believe Distortion made this for Moss.

There's some beautiful work here. I'm preparing to build my first dovetailed cab for my Eagle Premium and this is inspiring.

There was a cabinet someone posted here that I've been trying to find a photo of. I think it was a 2X12 cab with a light colored box, and a darker wood valence on the front. I thought it was a great example of what I want to do with my Magnatone cabinet that needs to be rebuilt.

Wow, some beautiful woodworking in those photos! I'd love to try my hand at building a cab from maple or walnut, but it is tough to get good wood here.

I posted this photo once before. It is a 2x12 cab made out of select pine from Lowe's. I used a router & jug to cut the dovetails - I don't think the photo shows the joints real well. I used danish nut oil to finish it. The baffle is birch plywood.

The speakers are Vin 30's - one was re-branded for Mesa, but they are both genuine Celestion-made. With the back closed, it thumps pretty good. Makes a 15 watt amp sound really big.
